Think Comcast is being Banned from some Websites

Folks can someone help me out?? I have not been able to access the EZPASS website in NJ. For the past week. I just got a new PC this past month. When I first hooked it up I had no problem accessing it. I thought my browser settings were altered and my firewall causing problems but they are not. My Firewall keeps saying that the outgoing ICMP is being blocked ( I shut Zone Alarm Pro down and still no luck). So, I went through MEGAPROXY and long and behold I can access the EZPASS site. Is there something I'm missing here?? I am running Windows XP Home Edition. Any Comments will be appreciated. By the way, with other sites I have no problem accessing.

ezpass.com works for me so do the NJ links on where to get it. What address are you using?

Comcast banned websites.

Opens right up for me. I'm using Comcast in Lower Merion, PA. I doubt sites would "ban" Comcast users from them.

why not try the ip for ezpass (63.69.183.54)

If that works, I would suggest there is a dns issue.

Assuming you are using IE, there are a couple of things you can do. First, make sure your cache is set to no more than 5MB. Secondly, make sure "every visit to this page" is selected under "check for newer versions of stored pages." Thirdly, (not to sound like a Level 1 Comcast tech) clear out the cache (sometimes that does the trick)Also, do a search and see if you have a hosts (or lmhosts) file on your PC, if so, see if there are any entries in it (other than the comments) that could be conflicting. Finally, try typing in the IP address of »www.ezpass.com which for some reason, there are two (63.69.183.54 and 63.69.183.7) in your browser and see if either of them work.

I am on the same node as you and have no problems getting to the site.

Good luck.

I was having very similar issues lately -- not being able to get to certain web sites, having pages and images load only partially or not at all. Of course I immediately blamed Comcast, since I tend to blame them for everything including bad weather. Then I back-tracked my own activities and realized that I'd recently upgraded my ZoneAlarm Pro to version 3.0.910. The new version is set with high secure defaults that prevent pages and sites from loading properly. I tweaked the ZA settings and all the "problems" vanished immediately.

Don't know if you have ZA, but for those who do, this is just a heads-up about version 3.0.910.

Ok I tried the individual IP's and no luck. I also switched the settings as mbernste recommended and no luck. I also have upgraded to the latest zonealarm pro and accessing EZPASS was working a while back. So, I thought it was the firewall and momentarily shut it down. I tried to access EZPASS and still no luck. The only thing I haven't checked for is the IMhost. I know there is a Generic Host Process for Win32 Services but since I'm new with Windows XP I wouldn't know where to look. Again, the funny thing is that I can Access it if I through MEGAPROXY.

Dugout,
Since we have the same version can you give me an insight as to what to tweak in Zone Alarm?? I looked at the Internet Zone settings and tried several things but didn't help. Maybe I missed something.

I set Program Control to Medium. Under Privacy I set Cookie Control to off, Ad Blocker to off, Mobile Code Control to off. On the Custom Setting tab for each (cookie, ad, mobile) I unchecked everything. Once that was done my connectivity was restored. Give it a shot and I hope it works for you.

All thanks for your help but nothing is working. The only thing That is significant is that it can be accessed through MEGAPROXY which I shouldn't have to do.

Re: Think Comcast is being Banned from some Websit

I had the same problem with dslreports a week ago for quite a few days... it simply refused to load either by IP or several of the various domains.... but going through a proxy it would load fine. (and not using windows, btw, lol).

Are you using any popup or adblocking software? I couldn't get to it just now but I disabled popup cop and it loaded fine. That doesn't make any sense to me at all since the site has no popups, but whatever it is worth a shot.

No popup or ad blocking software is being used. I even disabled Zone Alarm Pro and no dice. Like i said, if I go through MEGAPROXY.COM it loads. It's driving me bonkers.

Might this help?

From a thread I participated in a while ago.
said by cablejoe:
Are they using ZoneAlarm? I've seen exactly the symptoms you're describing when ZA goes south. If ZA is or ever has been on that machine, check this URL...

»www.zonelabs.com/service ··· tall.htm

Go to the bottom of the page and click on the link for your operating system.

Here's something else you can try...it's helped me fix a lot of problems.

(Forgive me if this sounds simplistic; I've copied and pasted it from another forum where the person on the other end wasn't too familiar with troubleshooting.)
quote:
Open Control Panel, then open the Network Properties....remove any and all adapters, clients, and protocols from the network properties, and click OK....but don't reboot yet.

Now, run Regedit.....find and delete the following keys:
(These may not be exactly right, but it's very close....I know the first and last parts are right.)

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\Winsock

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\Winsock2

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\services\VxD\MSTCP

Now, go back to control panel, open the system icon, and go to Device Manager...click on Refresh. This will re-install the NIC, including TCP/IP and client for MS networks, and recreate the deleted registry entries.

Reboot, and you should be good to go.
The registry is structured differently in WinNT/2000 and XP, but I've performed the same fix on a Win2K machine...the keys have the same names, but I don't remember exactly where they're at; it's fairly similar, as I recall.

Could not access www.cavtel.com yesterday (working today).

A few weeks ago on occasion I could not access Yahoo message boards with my Comcast connnection, but could do so via a dialup account I have, indicating it was a Comcast, not Yahoo problem.

Seem to have been other web sites I am on occasion not able to access.

Very odd!

All,
Thanks again but no luck. Midranger4, I tried your suggestion on completely removing ZA, no luck. I did not venture into the registries being I am not too familiar with XP yet even though the registry is similar to other previous operating systems. It's just puzzling. I tried to access it with my dial-up and no luck there either. ZA was also shut down when I tried this. After un-installing ZA I also tried to access it and no luck. Funny how every other web site I go to loads except EZPASS. Got Me?? Well I'll poke around some more but I think it's something somewhere in windows, who knows. Like I originally said, this is a new PC and when I first fired it up and I accessed the internet with ZA on, McAfee Viruscan on, I could access the EZPASS website. Now I can't anymore. However, If I go through MEGAPROXY's website and access it from there, it does.

EZ Pass has one of the poorest web sites around. I always seem to have intermittent trouble with the account access section of the site.

Good luck.
