Re: [Speed] Was upgraded to 105Mb...still using SB6120

said by Kasoah:

It's saying that CMTS is being congested during those hours, and I still got 100+ megabits on 4 channels.

FWIW, a high level CC engineer once told me that their CMTS's as well as their DNS servers are deliberately configured to rate limit / de-prioritze ICMP packet based ping probes, so pinging them with these types of tools is not an effective way of testing...

this is quite believable. many enterprise-class routers can do this, as well as de-prioritize the forwarding of pings.

and here is my thread where i discovered that 8 channels can most definitely give you better bandwidth if your area is congested.... a jittery 105 for me turned into a very consistent 115 after a 4- to 8-channel swap

@OP...Did they upgrade you to 105 by just pushing through the update or did they require a tech to come out...I want to upgrade but I refuse to pay that $250 fee and every CS rep I have tried, plus retention, won't budge on the install fee for the tech to come out

FWIW, I was upgraded from 50 to 105 without a tech visit. Over the phone the CSR upgraded my line. The only thing I had to do was reboot the modem.

I also talked with Retention last week and had it changed from Blas to Extreme at no additional monthly charge. Actually less since they had a new promo for my HD Premier XF triple play bundle.. No install fee as I'm using an Arris TM722G.

My offering only shows $50 for upgrading to 105. Check your offerings.

I was on Blast 50. I called about getting my bill reduced, which they did by $40 per month. I also asked about the upgrade. The CSR put me on hold to check on it and when he came back on the line he said he would be able to upgrade at no extra cost (which I verified on my online bill). After our call I simply rebooted the modem and got the extra speed, which is now around 121 down and 23 up.

Was done in 30 min via phone call. I just told them I wanted my triple play speed to be doubled. They transferred me to the retention dept and they pushed a config file to the modem, rebooted, and I was good to go. No increase in price or any fee for the change.

Wow; the inconsistencies with Comcast's policies is puzzling. You made out pretty good without a fee.

I am certainly pleased with how it all came out.

My understanding is that all tiers will see their speeds doubled, just like last year. It will happen on Comcast's schedule and at no charge and without any fee, just like last time.

All I did was call up and request to be put to the front of the line. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Just consider people may be talking about 2 different scenarios. One being the areas getting the free upgrade from 50 to 105 & the other choosing the 105 tier to subscribe to when you're not in a present "upgrade for free" market. These people would still have the install fee imposed. With that fee comes many variations as mine is $50.
