Re: Do I want to use Componet over HDMI???

The signal coming in to your cable box is digital. Unless you are still using a CRT, your TV uses a digital signal to drive the picture. There would be absolutely no reason to have the cable box convert it to analog, just to pass it to the TV to be re-processed to digital. And that is the only thing using component cables would do.

HDMI keeps the data digital all the way to the TV, without the extra conversions. Those extra conversions would IN THE BEST CASE pass an identical signal, but more likely degrade it.

If you want a softer picture, go into the TV's menu and reduce the "sharpness" option.

How is the picture quality degrade on Component. I saw no difference between Component and HDMI except for the audio being very shitty on Component and very super great on HDMI. I went back to using my »download.p4c.philips.com ··· enus.pdf 12 foot Philips SWV3434W/27 HDMI cord.

incorrect some late model CRTs DO in fact have HDMI port or DVI-D (which is similar to HDMI but without sound)

also the "D" stands for digital

the only thing CRTS offer is excellent (16:9 tube) HD and SDTV picture ..

LCDs and plasmas etc.... still can't touch it..

The statement "unless you are still using a CRT..." does not mean all CRTs are not digital, so the only incorrect statement is your 'incorrect', which, btw, is a great way to sound obnoxious by starting a post off like that.
