[Parts Check] Portable or NASGreetings, I need to reorganize my collection of personal pictures and documents. It seems over the years I have dumped them in nest folders and mixed them up between "Library" and "Document" folders. I want to start with fresh drive and folder structure. It's hard to decide to spend $100 or $400. So, would you purchase a "Portable" USB drive and move them about or would you spend the extra and setup a NAS to have a better long term backup? » www.tigerdirect.com/appl ··· 01759656» www.tigerdirect.com/appl ··· -2000NASor » www.tigerdirect.com/appl ··· 130-8704-Ravon |

I'd personally use a NAS with them backed up somewhere else just in case. I use google drive with encryption. |

In my world, those would be the most important files I have. Everything else can be replaced. So I would get a RAID box of some kind. » [FS] TekRAM CineRAID HR-458 external hardware raid enclosureYou might contact the OP to see if he still has one, they are decent boxes. |

If it only involves a machine or two that you use and you just want backup then I see no need for NAS. Under these circumstances I would just get 2 external hard drives and keep 2 backups with one of them kept off site in case of a fire/tornado etc. You should always have 2 , or preferably 3, backups They should never all be kept in the same location where everything could be stolen or lost in a natural disaster.
If you have multiple people in the house networked together and you want regular access to the backup store then NAS would be more appropriate. Note even if you have NAS you really should have another backup and not have it at the same site. |

What, you dont use suspenders and a belt at the same time,
.? I would get both,
Then I would setup a server at a friends or relatives house to use as a remote server / off sight backup (with their permission naturally). Or simply set up a remote server elsewhere like a vacation home,

I'd roll a NAS and set it up to sync to some cloud backup |

Greetings, I ended up going with a smaller NAS. I gathered some folder sizes and realized I have less than 60g of data. So I went with a BUFFALO LinkStation 421e 2 Bay NAS and two Seagate Barracuda 1TB hard drives. I was able to keep the price around $200.00. Now to finish my PowerShell script to copy all the data. -Ravon » www.tigerdirect.com/appl ··· atId=139» www.tigerdirect.com/appl ··· tId=9692 |
