Email Server Upgrade - 1 gig email storageHello gang,
This is just a bit of an update to inform you that your email storage has been bumped up to 1 gig. You can now keep up to 1 gig of emails on our email systems.
We have dedicated many resources over the past year to greatly improve our email systems. We figured it was a great time to highlight just how good it is by giving everybody some extra storage. I do believe that we can finally be proud of this new and improved system. |

Amazing!
Does that apply while using the teksavvy out as well, what about the attachment limit? |

Great job with the e-mail system and upgrades! Thanks for that guys. Could someone please point us to the page that spells out the parameters we should be using for Teksavvy's e-mail? Specifically I'm interested in the secure (encrypted) connection options. Thank you. These appear work: Incoming POP3: server: mail.teksavvy.com port: 995 type: SSL/TLS Outgoing SMTP: server: smtp.teksavvy.com port: 25 type: SSL/TLS (on same port as non-SSL??!) Incoming IMAP: server: mail.teksavvy.com port: 993 type: SSL/TLS Outgoing IMAP: server: out.teksavvy.com port: 1025 type: STARTTLS ☑ Require login Of course, Teksavvy WebMail's Secure Site works with any browser. (Heartbleed ok?) |

Hey Flannel,
The settings you provided are correct & we aren't affected by Heartbleed.

Sounds good.
Hopefully 'all' the email outages clear up as well.
Its actually been pretty good lately with those.
There has been just an odd outage here and there as of late.
Good job on that TSI! |

We take your privacy very seriously. You know we're not doing or seeking to do anything with your email other than keep it safe. No other motives.
The data is stored in Canada. The data doesn't flow to or through any other country.
It is, actually, a big deal. IMHO |

As for the 1GB limit, presumably you can more fully utilize it by storing stuff as e-mail attachments, wrapped in tin foil, er strong encryption, according to your level of paranoia. said by TSI Marc:The data doesn't flow to or through any other country. With respect, how can you know, let alone assure that? You have no control over the routes incoming took to get to you and no control over where they get routed once they leave you. It is, actually, a big deal. IMHO Thank you for your continuing vigilance on these issues. |

I'm pretty sure he meant your mailbox data, not the actual e-mails you send/receive to/from the internet. For Teksavvy customers it will always be the shortest route to connect to their e-mail servers. If connecting from somewhere else, use a secure encrypted connection method (or just always do that). |

yeah, assuming you're an internet customer of ours, our email systems are hosted before you hit the internet at large. So any emails you send will stay within Canada unless you're sending it to a destination that is hosted out of Country. The specific routing is obviously the thing that dictates that but in general the data sent between you and the mail system, does stay with Canada.
I'll have to double check for West users but I do believe the path from out west to Ontario where the email systems are located does also stay within Canada.
Either way, we're thinking about these things and I know many of you are too. Every little bit helps I'd say. |

With Bill S-4, ANYONE can knock on TSI's door and say "I think Nanook has engaged in [insert ANYTHING here - libel, slander, breach of contract, looking at me funny, copyright infringement, etc...] against me/my company and I require access to all email, attachments, and PII you have about Nanook.", and TSI can simply hand all this stuff over without a warrant, without you knowing about it, without recourse. At least in the US there's a semblance of a law you can tilt at, Don Quixote. Here, there's nothing you can do. |

And Teksavvy should generally have no interest in voluntarily handing over personal information without a court order anyhow... just because they can possibly voluntarily do something, doesn't mean they will, because they won't need to, they will have the right to demand a court order, if nothing else, to protect themselves. |

Marc is a good guy. The guy who takes over from him down the road (Marc checks-out with all his mountains of cash, buys super yacht from Larry Ellison and then cruises the world) may not be as nice a guy. Or maybe some sort of coercion is exerted on TSI from the Feds by somebody looking for dirt on Marc ("no dirt on me, I shower 2x daily"), or endless CRA audits, or whatever.
I wouldn't be surprised if all this Bill S-4 shit came directly from the US as a result of MPAA/RIAA leaning on a few US government officials, asking them to lean on Canada. This Bill would have made Voltage's court battle nothing more than one letter requesting info, and a reply with all the info.
When there's money involved, somebody will find a way to make Marc's life hard.

Ignoring that it's a fool's errand to respond to hypotheticals, in that case you switch ISPs to one that is more committed to protecting your privacyif you can find one. If not then you'll be no worse off then than you seem to think you are now. I feel sorry for the tin foil hat crowd. They've been predicting the end of the universe as we know it for many decades yet here we are and we're still not all in jail, in bankruptcy court or six feet under. What a lousy way to go through life. |

I have a question. If we skip e-mail, and really all extra services, can we pay less? I neither want nor need email, and would prefer not to be paying for everyone else to use email with excess storage. |

I'd want to trade the email and the 5Mb webspace for a custom .ca domain name instead, but thats just me. By the way I noticed the package information about the email and webspace isn't listed on the TekSavvy pages as part of the internet service. So I imagine a lot of people don't realize they're entitled to these. |

Feel free to post in our direct forum and someone will assist you in creating one.
