I've updated to this version and found have reported two problems to pcphonesoft. The first is that you have to wait a few seconds after hearing the dial tone before dialing a number or the first few digits won't go through. This only affects me when I dial a number on my phone THEN pick up the phone so the phone obtains a dial tone and quickly dials the number. pcphonesoft indicated this will be updated in a forthcoming release.
The other issue is that when I am connected to my Sprint voicemail account DTMF tones are duplicated. I haven't had a chance to test other situations, such as calling my bank or the like, but my assumption is it would be the same. To disambiguate: When I press "1" most of time it registers as "11". When I reported this to pcphonesoft their reply was that hopefully their update, forthcoming, will provide me with a better experience. So here's to hoping!
I do miss some of the features no longer available with Google's new platform. The most important thing to me is the new way call waiting works. I can pick up an incoming call, but it will disconnect with the call I'm currently on.
One thing that's better, though, is that I haven't been able to answer an incoming call through gvjack for months. Even though I waited for the full caller id to come through, I'd hear "modem tones" when I picked up the line and the caller would go to voice mail. I'm not having that problem anymore with gvjack 2.0.
I'm unclear as to how forwarding will work now, but this is more a Google thing than a gvjack thing. I don't know if GV will allow us to forward to, say, gvjack and a cell phone anymore. Or a cell phone and a home phone.
Many thanks to pcphoneosft for staying on top of this situation and letting us continue to use our GV numbers with our home phones in spite of the changes to the service! I've been using pcphonesoft's products related to the magicjack device now for just about as long as pcphonesoft has been selling them. I've been using gvjack since it was released, what, about two years ago? Pcphonesoft's products come highly recommended by me. |
