Currently with Comcast, want to switch to WOW (NW Subs, Chicago)

I'm currently with Comcast and want to switch to WOW. I really despise the Comcast service and they keep spiking up my bill, how is WOW and is it worth it to switch to Comcast?

Not in Chicago, but in Kansas and they keep spiking the bill from the junk hardware rental to the programing.

I thought that we could do away with the cheapest butler converter box on the bedroom TV to eliminate those rental fees, and just use a TV with a clear QAM tuner, but nooo, everything was working fine on the TV, until they moved channels around May 1st, and now several 1080i HD channels we pay for are gone missing, said "scrambled when I turned on the TV" (Discovery, History, Animal planet etc, even after rescanning for the channels, through the TVs menu. They still come in fine with the rental PACE TDC 787X box in the living room. But it is a BS racket they have going with TV box rentals, no box no watch. Considering canceling TV cable package, altogether. No need for even basic, OTA here is pretty good, will just need to build a box with MythTV as a DVR. Once I don't have the other channels for awhile, I won't miss them, I certainly won't miss that part of the bill.

Oh well, I think they will still charge me the $10+ cable transmission fee for not having cable TV package with internet...so its possible, I'd still get some basic analog cable anyway, not that its even worth the $10, analog = grainy as $%& on a nice HD TV. Aren't we glad HD is the standard OTA, but not in cable channels where you may have to pay extra, rent boxes, just to see it?

Heck with cell phones, not much use for the home phone service anymore either...lots to consider.

Broadband service, can't complain too much, its pretty stable, worth utilizing for
watching non cable content...IN HD 1080! But once cable co's, FCC $*%^ up net neutrality, they will most certainly over price themselves here too and ruin things on the web.

We are in Naperville and recently switched from Comcast to the WOW Ultra TV and we like it very much. Ultra gives you a true whole house DVR that can record up to 6 channels at once. We were able to take the DVR Expander HDD that I had connected to my Comcast DVR and connect it to the Ultra Gateway to expand the DVR storage. I also reused the Linksys Wifi Router that I had before, because I had read some complaints that the Wifi built into the Ultra Gateway did not have good enough range. We got the 15/1 Internet Service and we usually see more like 15/2 on Speedtest. Wow still has local broadcast stations on digital QAM for any TV's that you don't want to get a terminal adaptor for. Comcast has far more extensive selection of On-Demand material, particularly in HD, but we just record most of what we want to watch with the DVR so that we can skip commercials anyways. Picture quality is generally excellent, but we do see occasional bursts of pixelation that doesn't seem to correlate with anything else. Wow saved us about $30/month although I just had to pay $10 extra per month to watch the Blackhawks during playoffs on NBC/SN.

I missed the concerts from the Palladia and Axs TV channels when I switched, but the ability of the ultra tv media players to stream content from my computer makes up for it.

Stick with Comcast. They have more channels than WOW does and their internet speeds are faster and you won't get stuck with recycled junk hardware. And WOW is set to increase their prices on June 1.
