one time i did see this message white text that read "Please wait.. " when there was no buffering going on.

I have a direct connection of the box to the TV and this occurs from time to time. It started after the new HD guide update but usually clears up in a few seconds so I haven't gone any further with it.

I've been having it too, on cablecard tivo and tivo with DTA, not the white with text just black screen for second or 2.

Guys....different issues and technology in play here....do not confuse or combine them please. Open your own thread and I will treat them individually.
