Port Landline - Keep U-verse Dsl

I wish to port a landline to a at&t go phone and not have my dsl go down. The landline is my Grandfathers account with at&t. My account is at&t u verse internet only stand alone. Both accounts share the same line.

Will my dsl go down if I port the landline?

They should be able to keep your DSL up and just remove the dial tone. That would be what's called a "Dry Loop". That is how most of U-Verse users are setup.

Yes, but if your U-verse Internet service is sharing the same wire pair with a POTS voice line, you don't really have standalone U-verse service -- you have a shared line service. AT&T should still be able to convert your current U-verse Internet service to a standalone service after the number port has completed -- but you will need to let AT&T know that is what you want to. Since you are porting the number to another AT&T service, that will hopefully be enough incentive for them to cooperate. But nonetheless, be prepared for your Internet service to die almost simultaneously with the disconnect of the POTS voice service (I have seen that happen multiple times even after AT&T promised to cooperate and keep the Internet service active after the number port).

The key to whether or not you have a good chance to accomplish your goal will lie in how you are billed for your U-verse service and the POTS voice service. If you get separate bills on different account numbers, you have a good chance of success; if it is a single bill with a single account number, prepare yourself for disappointment.

The U-Verse account and the landline account are separate. They don't share the same account number. U-verse is in my name - Landline in my Granfathers name. I looked at the landline bill and there is no dsl on that account. I have been paying the bill for my Granfathers landline for over 10 years.

In that case, you should be good to go.

But it still doesn't hurt to remember that we are talking about AT&T here.

Quick update - The port was successful. My U-Verse dsl didn't go down (the landline is dead).
