Re: [rCable] Youtube videos stuttering.

The only reason I moved to Start from Teksavvy is because they had youtube issues about a year ago when google provided them with caching servers. The buffering nightmare happened every night and after 2 months I couldn't take it anymore. I know that they eventually got it fixed.

When I signed up with Start I specifically asked if they used caching servers and the answer was no. Did this change? Does start use youtube caching servers?

No we don't use YouTube caches. Just a direct connection to Google. They are doing maintenance in Toronto tonight started at 10pm and duration is listed as 6 hours.

Hmm should probably post that on twitter and these forums next time. Youtube is a critical part of the net. Why isn't Teksavvy affected though?

We weren't expecting any issues, we have plenty of transit capacity to cover the change. I suspect something didn't go exactly as planned for their update. As for why another ISP wasn't affected, I'm not sure they weren't - or maybe they don't have a direct connection, or maybe they depeered them early. edit: Or maybe you're going over IPv6 and that got hit early.
