[CFL] All Digital and QAM tuners

I was under the assumption that when the switch happened that QAM tuners would not work anymore. You HAD to have DAs. I received a letter yesterday and an email today that said, "As of Tuesday, August 12th, unless you have a QAM tuner in your TV or a Bright House Networks supplied digital device, such as a box or Digital Adapter, connected to your TV, you will lose the ability to watch these channels:" Followed by a list of 16 local channels.

So which is it?

So which is it? I have a 32" with a QAM tuner I put in the closet assuming it wasn't going to work. I'll put it back out where the old CRT TV sat.

I got the email, and USPS notice. I think it means you'll GET those 16 channels, WITH a television that has a QAM tuner, and implies you'll get no other channels-unless you get a DTA of course. Pretty limited channel group-amounts to just locals. When they start charging for the two DTAs though, I'll drop one of mine.
• WACX (Ind) • WOTF (UniMas)
• WESH (NBC) • WRBW (MyTV)
• WFTV (ABC) • WRDQ (Ind)
• WHLV (TBN) • WTGL (Ind)
• WKCF (CW) • WUCF (PBS)
• WKMG (CBS) • WUFT (PBS)
• WOFL (FOX) • WEDU (PBS)
• WOPX (ION) • WVEN (Univision)

It means you will get those and all the others on clear QAM now, metv and the other subs. The ones listed are still analogs, and for some odd reason 61 HGTV is still analog.

I got the snail mail too. I'll be dropping my DTA's anyway as no one uses them here.

Well, it's just me and my son visits occasionally so really no need to have them. And yes I love my DVR .

Also some discussion here, if you missed it, with a scan of a letter very similar to what the OP described. »[TV] An interesting revelation ....

The answer to the OP's question (and sorry for the delay I was painting) is... this is just another step in the conversion process. Once complete (which is coming very soon) we will encrypt and the few remaining channels available with QAM tuners will go away unless you have a DA or box of some type. The letter was intended to gently nudge those few holdouts that it's time to get their DA's...however it appears that it left some of you a bit confused and we apologize for that.

Gary, I think you need to be the one that issues all notices for BHN. The letter didn't say anything like that.

Why was this channel lineup added to the Brighthouse Website on 3/24/14 if the clear channels listed are going to be encrypted soon?

The hospital my wife works at is serviced by BHN for their tv service. Those are exactly the channels you get, in patient rooms, offices, and other areas, but ESPN (29), and others are also available-basically, what was on the old digital basic...

That was 5 months ago Matt and we update them on a regular basis. Read nothing into that because once the conversion is complete you WILL need one of the adapters or a box....it is just that simple.

I too received the same letter! I just confirmed with Brighthouse chat that QAM channels would still be available to me without a DTA. I'm trying to cut the cablecard addiction and keep my QAM if possible. Do I need to plan on switching to ATSC then?

As I have clearly said above once the conversion is complete these channels will also be unavailable without a digital box/dvr, cable card or DA. We apologize for the confusion the letter may have caused you related to the QAM channels.

This is your heads up... if you are in CFL and you still do not have your DA's, Boxes or Cable Cards and have been relying on the remaining QAM channels...it's do it or lose it time. Please make it priority to get into a lobby or have them installed within the next couple of days if possible.

When do they start charging for the DA's? If I remember right, it was the first of the year?

All those cable pirates will be crying in their grog on that day.

I do hope a roku app comes before the conversion goes elsewhere

Yea mine runs "warm" as well...you ought to couple it with a Samsung retail STB. Then you will know the meaning of HOT.
