[GA] Cox ClearQAM in Macon, GA?Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum.
Cox is installing at my apartment in Macon, but no one at Cox is able to answer this question.
Is ClearQAM enabled for local broadcast HD channels if a customer is subscribed to those channels (is an HD receiver required)?
If anyone has any technical details with Cox in Macon, I'd love to hear about it. I can't stand AT&T (internet drops once a day). |

No reciever required for ClearQam local broadcast channels as long as you are subscribes to at least Basic/Starter cable. Just a TV capable of ClearQam reception.
It isn't a requirement anymore but Cox still supports them. |

Do you happen to know if I can receive those channels in HD or only SD via ClearQAM? |

Last question.
If I just want to do local channels in HD, will I need to subscribe to a cable package or is an internet package sufficient (I'm sure the answer to this is yes I need a cable package)? |

Receiving/viewing any channels that you do not pay for is considered theft of service... most don't seem to care/worry about passive theft of service but it is still considered theft. So officially you do have to have a cable channel package.
Whether or not they bother to put a filter on the line to block the clear qam frequencies varies by area and installer... It used to be that internet service without tv service included a $5-$10 extra charge to "pay" for basic lifeline channels as they do owe retransmission fees for them if you receive them, however there were some that really only wanted internet and complained they shouldn't have to pay for TV service they didn't want as well as the fact that lifeline rates have probably at least tripled over the past several years (it used to be an apartment complex could get them for $5/month/apartment, now I have seen that rate as high as $25/month/apartment) |

Well I'm not advocating for theft of service. I wasn't aware if Cox knowingly allowed clearQAM channels without a package |

I've got it, but I have problems picking up WMAZ for some reason.
Sometimes it will be fine. Sometimes there are problems. I've tried a different antenna and amp too. |

WMAZ is VHF channel 13. The rest of the stations are UHF. To get 13 you may need a big wide antenna, at least twice as wide as the average rabbit ear can go. » en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No ··· VHF_band |

It just depends on the installer and the area. I had an installer tell me that he quit putting the filters on new installs when Cox stopped reimbursing him for the cost of the filters. YMWV |
