I was wondering if it's possible to find a replacement or something that would work on a motor load?

[HVAC] Re: Is this a two wire thermostat?

Looks like an old pneumatic stat..

Yes, it is an old pneumatic thermostat that does not switch any electrical load. It controls air pressure which in turn adjusts dampers or some other pneumatic device.

You can get electrical thermostats that handle a motor load. Typically used in electric draft stopper in-wall heaters. My recollection says White-Rodgers is a maker. A baseboard heater thermostat may handle a motor load, don't know.

I assure you it controls a motor load.. why that one Is missing I don't know why.. it's connected to trane heater blowers the motors look to be 1/4 hp.

It's not pneumatic. That's a line voltage thermostat, 120 or 240v loads. If you need to replace it you should be able to find one easily. The key words when you shop for it or ask about it are "line voltage".

An alternative is to use a 24 volt stat via a transformer and relay set up.

I assume the wall box has to be replaced I looked at a few on ebay and they still go for a good price

The only way to keep the same base plate would be to use the same stat. But I wouldn't recommend it. That's an antique these days. There are plenty of modern offerings from all the players in the t-stat game. Just do a web search for "line voltage thermostat". Check the specifications on manufacturer websites to ensure the contacts are rated for the motor load you have.

Yeah I found one might pick it up monday.. at least it's programmable. . However I doubt the voltage to the thermostat is on a breaker where would mostly find the shutoff for it?

Generally they are wired through the equipment they control. The breaker for that equipment should kill power to the stat. Needless to say, verify with a good meter.

OK, so those are wires in the picture. I thought they looked like tubing.

The name changed to Honeywell in 1965, so you've got some real vintage there.

I have to check the heaters themselves have switches on them as well but I think they might be on something just not labeled as a force fan

Yeah so old it's no info on the Honeywell site.. but not that I expected it to be.

Picked up the RLV4305A this morning, still curious why it was removed.

Not sure what this refers to.

Be sure that you configure the thermostat in the advanced settings for a fan-equipped heater. This thermostat is not normally a bang-bang control. It modulates the voltage to the heater to control the temperature better. You don't want that, it will eat the fan motor, so you must tell it that your heater has a fan.

Yeah, I haven't got around to opening the package up yet but I will look at the directions when I get around to installing it.

Re: [HVAC] Is this a two wire thermostat?

Ha what do you know I found two old thermostats laying on a air handler. . I doubt they are worth the hassle to sell.
