Wow laid off hundreds of emoyloyees todayCompanywide they gave us a mandatory meeting and started laying off hundreds of employees with absolutely no heads up so people could start planning. Their core values "respect, servanthood, integrity" is now garbage. Corporate and management cant even practice their own values. The worst part is they knew for weeks that this was coming and did this so close to the holidays. Wow was definitely an amazing place to work for. Over the past 3years it when from being run as a small business to being run exactly like Comcast. |

At least Comcast offers competitive internet speeds. Layoffs tend to happen at the end of financial quarters/years. Not saying it is right, but not uncommon for companies. They have a bad quarter/year, and need to show the owners they are taking steps to improve the financials. Good luck with your search, and use this as an opportunity to find a better company. |

I mean seriously, that is the absolute height of disrespect for your employees and then some. "Look to your left, look to your right, one of you is being laid off. At least! Happy holidays!" Seriously, even much larger companies don't do that. NOBODY does that. Why? Because it's incredibly crass, utterly disrespectful, completely unethical, and entirely unprofessional. Which is exactly what WOW is proving itself to be across the board. I feel sorry for the employees who are learning the hard way that the "company values" are complete bullshit. |

The company made 500million last year. This year its not much difference. Its corporate greed. No bonuses for years, no raises for years and our 401k match went from 3% to 0 for a couple years to 1% last year |

Barely cost of living raises. 401k match? HAHA yeah right. Most years I lose money because health care increases are more than my raises. I'm just saying if you think that is bad, you haven't seen what bad really is. |

Wow is breaking the law. See other threads here.
Now they are violating good common decency.. I'm canceling WOW after 9 years with them as soon as another ISP installs their stuff next week.
I recommend everyone do the same.. Put them out of business. |

I've worked in the public sector for 7 years now, 2-3% raise on average, year over year, no bonuses though (but my new job - also public, has them), both places matching my 10% with 14% for retirement. I still would like to get paid for money, but working in the public sector isn't all bad. On Topic: This is awful for any WOW employees, I'm very sorry to hear about this for everyone involved. |

This strengthens my thoughts about this company.
The huge increases plus the fast expansion by acquisitions and now layoffs make me think that WOW is going to put themselves up for sale. Get as large and as profitable as they can, even if it's just for the short term, to get as much money as possible for the owners. |

Where were these layoffs? One location? Call centers? Corporate Offices?
I'm pretty sure WOW has its major tech center in Naperville where I know several employees, including one who frequents this site. |

All deparments in all wow markets are getting lay offs. They did get rid of important people who developed procedures and people who are needed to maintain the servers and also trainers so it does look to employees also as if they are going to sell |

Said it in the other thread. Coupled with their rate increases and all the other bad pub (read their FB and Twitter pages) this doesn't bode well for this company. |

As additional evidence, CEO Colleen Abdoulah resigned earlier this year. She was characterized as leading "a company dedicated to customer and employee service." She be gone. |

Uh, hello people, companies are in business to make money. This is Corporate America, capitalism to the core, not non profit. It's pretty simple, you don't hit the number, you gotta trim the fat. Just like the public sector, a lot of dead weight not contributing to the bottom line. It happens everyday. If you can't handle the risk of being layed off, I suggest you don't accept a job in Corporate America. Go work for yourself and see how long it takes to figure out how to keep the doors open when you don't hit the number you need to stay profitable. |

They are making money, plenty of it. They raise rates and add fees at a fever pitch. Sure companies can do whatever they want to improve their bottom line. The issue for most is that this is more evidence that the WOW we knew is gone. They are just as "evil" as every other cable company. |

Uh, hello to you, will this CEO be getting his compensation massively slashed, or actually get a BIGGER bonus for "trimming the fat" ? |

yeah, don't count on big wigs cutting their bonuses.
The next goal is to outsource as much call center operations as possible to central America and then, as others have mentioned, get ready to be sold |

WOW is a private company and they are absolutely zealous about guarding how much they actually make. They wouldn't still be in it if they weren't making a lot more than that. Which just makes it all the more insulting to the employees. |

Yeah, they're selling. They literally just bought a truckload of E6600's and all that Juniper gear but still haven't fixed basic security issues. Still haven't got their heads out of their asses on provisioning. And I'm guessing the people who actually wrote their provisioning system are now gone. The actual owners (the vulture capital goons) are nuts though. Who the fuck are they going to sell to? Can't sell to Charter, Charter's already moving in with the Comcast-TWC deal. Cox won't be interested in non-contiguous or areas they got kicked out of. And nobody else is big enough to do the deal. |

said by mogamer:Probably another venture capital group. Maybe a foreign one eager to enter the US market? Nobody wants into the US market through that route. It's literally the absolute last thing they would be interested in. Between CALEA, the NSA revelations, and regulatory hurdles involved? It's too much headache for too little profit. I also suspect some regions will end up being literally parted out. WOW will claim their franchise agreement doesn't require them to continue operating, and they'll just disconnect everything and walk away. (Rest assured, they already pulled any decent gear out of the ND/SD/MO regions they already agreed to sell.) |
