Goodbye Uverse/attI was on the 45mbps uvers internet only package. Have been a loyal customer since 2009. Called retention department and asked that there competition had 50 meg burst (comcast) for 39.00 a month. asked if they can come close to that. They bundled voip (did not need) to bring it down to $50.00 per month (10.00 cheaper). 2 days later I get an email that my billing was incorrect it should now be +5.00 per month. Called back to cancel now they are charging me 180.00+ to cancel. I was so mad that there retention department will not compete/will not try to keep there loyal customers/ will not match competition price. This company is so behind the times that they don't care about customers any more. I'll pay your dam early termination fee (180+) and will never ever come back.
I get my return # and account number. I am asked to take my equipment to ups store. There are 5 other people dropping off there uvers modems in line. When my turn comes to return the device I ask the lady that works there if they are getting alot of these devices. She tells me all day every day (this month). |

I've heard about a few bad things from comcast, but if they can get you a consistent 50Mbps download speed for a lower price and also have not a horrible latency, I would say it's very well worth it(except for caps if they have any) I too will make the switch to cable, TWC, once my contract is over, hopefully Maxx will be available by then. $81 or more is not worth it to be paying for 45Mbps down along with all the problems I've had. Plus I want to give cable a try. $64.95 for 100Mbps and ability to use my own equipment makes it definitely better IMO. I guess unless AT&T is hurt for money, they don't seem to care for their customers too much. |

Retention this year is not as good. I hate to jump ship but saving 20 bucks a month for a year is pretty significant. 240 bucks could buy a case of wine, graphics card .... 45Mbps service ideally would be no more than $50 bucks. I'd say at the high end $1 a Mbit is fair. Though I wish our lines were more symmetrical. » DSL Extreme Might have a better deal for the same service. |

More power to both of you if you can get a better price/service quality combo from another provider. I don't have that luxury with the local cable competition. Price-wise, I'd spend about $5 more per month with the cable provider for a similar package and I could only get up to 30Meg and no whole-house DVR included without additional monthly premium service costs. From what I hear from any neighbors that have ever tried it, it was down frequently, customer support was terrible, and when it was available the Internet throughput and latency was wildly variable and inconsistent. The vast majority of neighbors are on AT&T U-verse for Internet access and it is probably a 50/50 split between DirecTV/Dish and U-verse TV subscribers.
I'm reasonably satisfied with U-verse service, although I do feel the prices for Internet access are about $20-25/month relatively higher than they should be and the TV service is about $25-30/month more expensive than it should be as well. We are being ripped off with the HD Premium fee for a very mediocre 5.7Mbps h.264 "HD quality" video stream that should just be included by default. Once they get the ability to deliver a 10-12Meg h.264 stream that actually resembles the quality of a 1080i/p ATSC MP2 stream at 19.2Mbps, then the premium would be worth it, in my opinion. The problem is that they don't have much serious competition here. |

Not trying to steal OP's thread but, What cable provider is in your area rolande? Do you have TWC or suddenlink around there? is 30Mbps the max they can really do there? We live relatively around the same area, I would of thought most part of the area would have 50Mbps down as a max. I used to have 50Mbps as max until a about 1-2 months ago, now its 100Mbps for $64.99(promo price of course, but does not go up way too high) I'm expecting some decent upgrades from TWC throughout the Dallas metroplex for 2015 |

Our neighborhood is Suddenlink. 30Meg is the max just east of Preston off 380, unless that has changed recently. It has probably been 6 months since the last time I looked. |

Ironically I pass through around that area somewhat frequent. Well seems like U-Verse is the best way to go in your neighborhood for broadband, Suddenlink is clearly lacking in speed and having heavy caps, very surprised they are slower than U-Verse. |

Since they sent you an email saying billing was incorrect and they are charging you more, I would think that would be a material change of the contract and give you an out without the $180 fee. |

The lowest price for the Power tier with internet only would be $40.50 with the retention 50% off for 12 months offer. |

That's my only gripe about AT&T UVerse is the pricing is a little high compared to the competition. Here I can get Insight err I mean Time Warner HSI (30/5 for $54.99) sadly Time Warner can't get the act together here and provide clean upstream signals so my modem has packet loss issues when the temps drop below 30F and they won't er can't seem to figure how to fix it.... so I have UVerse 12/1.5 since it's "stable" even though it costs me more for less speed than I could get with cable having a rock solid connection matters more. One of the big stickers on UVerse is the $7 Gateway fee... If only they would abolish that (especially for those who subscribe to UVerse TV also as it makes the gateway mandatory). When I had Time Warner I owned my modem so I wasn't paying anything beyond the monthly fee for service. I will say though (I have UVerse U200 with HD) and I am getting $33.00 off a month and that is a better deal for that amount of channels than I can get from Time Warner (Plus Time Warner's DVR here sucks -- only records two things at once (you must be watching one of the things) etc... Uverse is a better deal in that aspect. |

I somehow am not paying for a gatway fee anymore, I do not know if they decided to waive it or a glitch on their system since I had to return the one I had before for a new one because they couldn't get their act together for my service. I'm wondering if anyone else is still paying that fee, cause right now I'm just paying for the service and tax. |

So you think I have a chance of not having to pay the early termination fee? |

Only if you signed a contract for $10 off for bundling. If you did this over the phone, you are completely and utterly screwed.
Don't trust ATT or comcast unless it is in writing. |

Outside of that , DSLExtreme might be able to compete. ATT's prices need to be closer to $1 downstream Mbit. |

said by ob1100 :So you think I have a chance of not having to pay the early termination fee? Bait and switch. I would not pay the $180 because AT$T did not live up to their agreement. And if they try to collect it I would file a claim in small claims court. I believe it is only $35 to do so. I have heard of this happening way too many times with AT$T. |

Usually, if Comcast quotes you $39, count on another $10 in miscellaneous charges and for rental of the modem. If you think Comcast is going to give you better service than AT&T, I am dubious of that. How many carriers do you have to choose from?
For me there are only two , AT&T and Comcast, and Comcast has a much worse reputation here in south Florida. |

I recently switched to Comcast for service after having uverse since before they lost the hallmark channels. I called ATT 4 times trying to get them to give a new 2 year contract that was at least as good as what I had. The best they could do was $30 more than what I was already paying. And I even tried begging them because I really didn't want to switch. Comcast came out on 12/20 and installed the service. I called ATT that afternoon to cancel. They didn't seem to care. I called ATT a week later inquiring about the last bill and the rep said that the service wasn't cancelled. At that point I was not happy and a few hours later the phone was inactive and online access changed. I knew then that they finally got it cancelled backdated to 12/20. Of course, the real test will be the final bill. By the way, the Comcast bill is already over $30 per month cheaper and that is not including the new fees that ATT is getting ready to charge in February. The HD is actually better too. I didn't think it would be. Also, enjoying 105mb/down 20mb/up speeds. Comcast voice app has a lot more options too. I didn't that would be possible either. And Comcast is not a perfect company either buy I have to go with who gives me the better deal. |

If you want to maximize your savings and discounts, you will have to switch your service provider every one or two years. When you come back to ATT they will give you a really good discount while treating you as a new customer. |

Just today I got the same exact email but had not made any changes. It is quite possible that the email was just coincidental to your service change. Did they tell you that they would not honor the price/package you had negotiated? |
