[Business] Comcast Cisco Business Gateway

Is there really no way for the business to disable WiFi entirely on this box? I find it disgusting that Comcast makes no mention in the cusadmin login of the "xfinity" open WiFi network that is running, and there is no way to disable it without calling in to support.

I also can't find a way to put it into pseudo-bridge mode like we could with the older SMC devices.

[Business] Re: Comcast Cisco Business Gateway

Call in to support 800 391 3000; they should be able to disable the xfinitywifi and put it in bridge mode. If you get a rep that says they cant do either, hang up & call back to get someone else. Keep in mind that both of these settings could get reversed at Comcasts whim (firmware upgrades are a common trigger for that)

Their biz support has gone in the shitter the last six months.

The first tech told me it was impossible to put the device into bridge mode and they'd need to send new hardware.

I pointed out that I'd already had this Cisco modem bridged elsewhere.

She then said it was impossible to turn off the xfinitywifi ESSID. I told her I'd already had this done elsewhere.

She then put me on hold and came back and told me Tier 2 would call me in 24 hours, that they have no way to disable the WiFi or put the modem in bridge mode.

I asked for a supervisor who was able to show me how to turn off the client-side WiFi (after she looked it up- she had no clue at first), but there is no way to disable the xfinitywifi ESSID and the modem is not passing packets inbound to our systems (they are not hitting the WAN interface of our router. 68 minutes on the phone with them.

This is just abysmal from top to bottom, and NOT the way Comcast Biz Support worked six months ago.

Just to tie this out...

I sent an email to my inside rep last night and as a result got a call from a Tier 2 tech today (the promised "within 24 hours" call has yet to happen). He turned off the xfininitywifi nonsense and then told me that it was my problem that inbound data (RDP, SMTP, etc.) wasn't working.

Since the only thing I'd changed on our router was the WAN IP info (IP, GW, netmask), I knew this wasn't correct.

He told me at least six times, and three times tried to use their canned "Our system is working properly, there's no more I can do." close the call sentence on me. After two separate heated debates and having his position "backed up by another tier 2 tech", he said he'd take one more look. And suddenly we had inbound communication.

"Uh, I found one more thing we needed to change."

108 minutes (68 yesterday and another 40 today) on the phone with Comcast to get their scummy wifi turned off and pseudo-bridge mode working. Getting to this point took 30 seconds on the SMC modems and did not require a call to support.

That I was told things that were blatantly untrue and had to get downright nasty on the phone with tier 2 to get them to fix their issue is freaking nuts.

Do you have statics? if not I'd just get a motorola modem instead.

Well if you have statics then you can't do bridge just pure routing.
