In order to buy your own modem for use on DSL, there are certain protocols needed for the modem to work, which is dependent on what your line is able to offer.

Internet 1 , 6 , 15 is Adsl. Internet 15 can be also Vdsl

Internet 25 , 50 ,100(bonded copper) is Vdsl.

New Actiontec is the T1200H. T2200H for bonded . Port1 bridge mode available on both.

Fibre to the home? No need for the Telus Gateway, unless you have Optik TV and can't work out Multicast.

For bonded copper(2 pairs of phone lines) at 100Mbps, it requires the T2200H, as the V2000H does not have the proper DSL sync profile(8B , 17A) to do 100.

I'm stuck with 15 Adsl, unfortunately. Fibre has been brought in at the street level (July 2014), but I'm told it won't be coming to our home yet. The "guess" was February. I wasn't thrilled with the 15 speed (was @ 50 with Shaw) but the price was right and I don't really *need* the faster speeds.

My friend also didn't have fibre but was able to get 25Mbps by, how he described it, having two lines brought in. I guess that's "bonded" and I asked Telus about that and they told me that also wasn't available at my house.

So 15 is as good as it gets I guess... for now. At least it really is 15. Last time I had ADSL I was paying for 15 but getting 7 to 8.

Anyway, I'll ask them to swap it for the T1200H. Thanks for the headsup.

if u are really on adsl why dont u find a tompson speedtouch 516.. they are by far the best adsl modem out there and can be had for real cheap...

Thompson Speedtouch would work great, I had it myself and it worked all the way up till I got 25mbps, then I managed to get an ALU.
