[General] Some CLEC questions ...

Hello:

I asked a VSP why they did not have phone numbers in a certain NPA:NXX and they responded: "We rely on our underlying CLEC coverage."

Is it worth trying to find out who the underlying CLEC is and then present a request directly to them?

Is it difficult/expensive for a CLEC to add NPA:NXX's to their 'overlying' VSP's?

Thanks,

Rob.

Each VSP have their own policies and on-net/off-net contracts with their carriers, but I would not mind checking around the 3-4 CLEC's I know to see if they have on-net or off-net presence, for science.

You are a customer of your VoSP not of the CLEC. (Your VoSP is a customer of the CLEC.) It is highly unlikely any CLEC will add coverage areas based on a request from a denizen.

Yes, it is expensive for a CLEC to add new geographic (i.e. NPA-NXX) coverage areas, as they must install telecom hardware to cover a previously uncovered area/CO.

And the CLEC might need to arrange 911 coverage for the new central office as well.

Many, many years ago Eastern Airlines had an hourly shuttle between NYC and Boston, no advance tickets.

They advertised that everyone was guaranteed a seat, that if needed they would roll out a new plane even if that new plane ended up flying with just one passenger on it.

I thought that it was BS then, and still think it was.

Undoubtedly some Boston Patriots fans ended up being deflated, though Patriots fans probably know about deflation.
