I'm with you on the quality thing. I really haven't gotten into the MP3 thing, but I do burn mixed/compilation CDs from my collection.

I've mentioned this before...I challenge someone like Best Buy or any other music retailer that sells new music to setup a dozen or so CD players and allow you to preview any CD they sell, not just a selected few new releases.

I see this in the case of used reseller stores, usually so you can verify that the disc sounds OK...but still, the premise is that you should be able to preview, and for the most part you don't ever have that ability.

But of course they want you to just buy the CD, and if you don't like it -- tough.

Yep. Write your Senator and Congressman. I e-mailed all three. Have yet to hear squat from two of them. The third (John Warner) sent a "Dear Friend" form response.

With all the lobbying going on by the industry, we now have a Pay-Per-View Congress...

To clarify things, if we want Dubya to kill this bill, we will have to make sure he strongly opposes it. To kill this bill, he will have to specifically veto it when he receives it. Then Congress will need 2/3 votes in each house to override the veto if they still want this bill to become a law (which is unlikely to happen).

However, things get hairly if Dubya takes other options. One of his choices is to do nothing about this bill, which is not good enough as in this case it will still become a law 10 days after, unless Congress adjourns before 10 days is up (this is called pocket veto).

I didn't sign it." song.

That is why if Dubya is to be lobied, we will need to make sure that he opposes this thing.

I also heard that he supports Microsoft plus a few major computer makers, who are opposing this bill. If this is the case, maybe they can lobby Dubya to kill this thing...

I have to wonder what the REAL support numbers are for this in the House or Senate? We have seen alot of smoke from a few folks but there are 435 House members our there and 100 Senators...so I wonder what support they really have.

The unfortunate thing is with everything else that is going on, this may just be the perfect time to have this pass -- as it is possible it may just not be seen as all that important to many (i.e. important enough to vote against).

One thing for sure is that those who vote FOR it are likely to take a hit come election time.
