Re: My network closet is finally complete... for nowThank you! this is the last piece of info I needed, and this works good for your internet and TV right? I just been doing research between copper clad and solid copper and trying to find the best so I can run a homerun cable from my modem to the outside, and I don't want to run the risk that copper clad wouldn't work after installed. |

Everything works awesomely! Everything is beautiful and crystal clear. Had money been no object, and I'd paid attention to what the contractor was using, I may have requested solid-copper, quad-shielded, but, right now, I'm perfectly happy with everything as it is. It works great. |

Thanks for all the info. Once again very nice setup, hopefully in the future I can have a clean network closet. |

It's solid copper center which is required if you switch to satellite. And the shielding is better than most quad shield coax because of the shorting fold. It's also easier to terminate than quad shield. I used the Belden ProSNS Universal Compression F Connectors that tseletronic also sells and they work great. The red Snap and seal would also work fine. |

That's not bad for a solid copper core for coax (price wise to what I've found) However I'm just getting coax for cable internet, I did do some research and see that satellite requires solid copper to transmit power up to the LNB, and copper is only one that seems to pass the DC resistance test (to my research so far).
However, for a homerun line from the cable modem to the drop, I don't think it will be required for solid copper, unless it makes a difference to the power levels. I also already got compression connectors and tools, the last thing on my list is the cable itself and I have until september to buy. Apologies for going slightly off topic on your thread, bfollowell3. |

No problems. I accomplished what I wanted with it, which was just to let everyone that has been so helpful to me see the results of their efforts. Also, I got clued in to a really nice looking rack mountable surge suppressor/power strip. If it goes off on the occasional tangent but helps others, so much the better.
F100, if you're looking to rework your setup, look no further than Monoprice for patch cables, or pretty much any sort of networking/cabling needs. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone with a better combination of price, customer service and shipping speed.

Yeah, that patch panel and most of those patch cables are from Monoprice. The punchdown, coax stripper and compression tool all from Monoprice. Good site.
They have rack stuff now too but it's not cheap.
How did you do phone if you have any? Change ends to RJ-11 jacks? |

Honestly, we both have cell phones and we're the only two in the house, so we don't have a "house" phone, even though we technically have voice services with TWC.
It didn't even occur to me to install a phone line until right before the drywall went up but I figured I should. I had one extra CAT6 cable ran behind one of the night stands in our master bedroom and the other end is hanging in my network closet but I haven't terminated either end yet. No rush to do anything since we don't plan to use it I guess. I do need to get off of my rear end and take care of it before too long though, just to be able to say it's complete.
When I do eventually get around to hooking the phone line up, I'll probably just hookup to a standard phone wall jack in the bedroom and a small punch-down block in the network closet. Then, if I ever decide to install a house phone, I could go from the punch-down block to Ma Bell's box or the voice service modem or whoever/whatever I'm using. |
