Re: [Internet] TWC Maxx for San Diego customers?

said by vistao :

92081, just got updated.

Last time I talked to TWC, they said this was a year and a half out in my area. That was only a few months ago. Weirdos.

My SBG6580 is getting 120/20, my plan is for 200mbps now. But I see on their official modem listings, it says it should only get 100mbps. Ugh, why? It supports it!

»www.timewarnercable.com/ ··· ems.html

Also in 92081 and same thing tonight. Check my post above. We're both getting the same speeds (though I am on ultimate). Confirmed I wasn't officially provisioned yet, so we're technically still on our old tiers but overprovisioned. This should be temporary though!

As I reported yesterday bumped up from Turbo to 115.9 down 11.67 up. I got the Motorola mentioned on this thread the MB7420 to replace my SB6141 which was able to handle the 100 level but I thought I might really be able to get 200 at my level of service.

I had previously been given a brochure describing 3 bundles the middle one costing $109 with 200 Mb internet. After hooking up my new modem I went down to the TW office on Faraday and pointed out that I was paying $109 a month so could I please have the bundle with the 200mb speed. Well of course they told me I previously had turbo and that upgrades to 100, and that bundle I wanted was for new customers.

I persisted a little and the guy dug around and found another very similar bundle (probably the same but with a different code) that was available to existing customers and he switched me over to it.

I got home and ran the test:

I'm describing this in case anyone else finds themselves in this position - the bundle I'm on is basically the same as I had but with the increased speed. It includes the enhanced DVR which is very nice and phone which I don't use.

I like my new modem especially since its charcoal/black instead of white

I'm in 92008. My Netgear CM600 just arrived and I was able to get it activated online in about 5 minutes. I'm getting about 350/23 speeds on it, and I'm pretty sure I'm on the $99/month plan (which used to be $75 for the first 12 months).

I logged into my TWC account and it hasn't been updated to show the new speeds for me, so I'm guessing they are a little behind.

David1951: for $109/month I think you should be getting 300/200 not 200/20, if that matters.

No, my bundle includes premium channels, an Arris 6 tuner enhanced dvr, phone, and 200 mb internet. I have had this equipment for a while. It used to include turbo 20 mb internet for the same price.

I could upgrade to 300 for $10 more though.

Glad you guys got the upgrades, gives me hope that my area still might have a chance at maxx speeds since they were practically done with the upgrades when the merger happened... I have a question for all those who got upgraded within these past few nights....what was the target date for rollout u guys were getting ?

Still stuck at ~120/20 for now. Hopefully one day this week they'll flip it on.

Did you ever connect direct to modem and test? If you have 20 up, you're provisioned for 200 or 300 down. There isn't a lower config file then that without dropping the upload speed.

I had chatted with 2 different reps online in the last month and neither gave me any go-live date. I also didn't receive any notice ahead of time in the mail, but did receive an email 1-2 days after it went live.

Cool.......
Straaaange - theres lots of us here from 92009 for some reason. And we've been reporting on this thrread the past few pages about what we've heard from TW either onb the phone, in the office, or even at a local burger place.

In short, most were saying October. So we got it a bit ahead of that.

Also......very happy how this upgrade works, I was on turbo which upgrades to 100 despite the fact that I was paying enough for a 200 speed bundle. I thought it important to establish my account at the 200 level just so there would be no chance of Charter coming in and holding those at 100 to that level.

If you have an Arris modem, click this link

»192.168.100.1/RgCmConfig ··· tion.asp

and post 'max tx rate, bps' (6th and 14th lines from top).

It's safe to click. Let others confirm if you want.

Well whaddya know, that page says i'm provisioned at 368/24.5

I'd be surprised if my router was insufficient for this speed but I guess I better look into it (and do the direct connect test)

Never mind guys, you're right.. it's my router. Here's me directly on the modem:

It's a Netgear WNDR3700 V4 with DD-WRT (recent build). So I either have to find a config fix or get a new router, but now I know.

Edit: played around with some QOS settings but to no avail... this is definitely aging hardware but I never imagined it wouldn't handle these speeds. Guess I'll go pick me up a Nighthawk or something.

What is it with router gear that caps folks' speed well below that which is provisioned on the modem? I'm on older Cisco 100 Mbps gear and my 100 Mbps provisioning tops out at about 53 down. Why is this never discussed in reviewer comments for routers? Seems like this is a problem for a lot of us. In my case i went ahead and purchased an ASUS RT-AC87U and will be running Merlin on that. It has been well-reviewed, but I have *no idea* whether I'll get full download speeds or not, especially if I upgrade to one of the higher tiers.

As the Juggalos would say, Whoop WHOOOOOOP! 92081 is in the house.

Courtesy of my new Netgear Nighthawk AC3000. What a monster of a footprint though. Maybe I'll mount it on the wall.

I'm also getting ridiculous 5ghz speeds on my phone and tablet... 800+Mb by pooling the two 5ghz radios together. Good stuff. Not that I need this speed, but I like seeing it anyway.

It's not a question of routers capping the download speed, it's just that consumer gear is generally built on hardware that can only go that fast. Many of the higher end consumer routers can do 950+Mbits but only through hardware-accelerated/offload of NAT-- then when you flash software like DD-WRT on it, you lose your NAT offload capability and you're back down to 300-400 Mbits. Add QoS and extra firewall/NATprocessing and pretty soon you're down in the 200Mbit range.

True Gigabit capable gear that can also do lots of NAT processing and QoS is way more expensive than what most folks are willing to pay.

Yeah, this was the sad truth I learned over the last couple of days, when I couldn't understand why my old router wasn't handling it. It all makes sense, it's just something I never thought of and didn't assume would be an issue.

Since I'm topping everyone's speeds now I think I'm good for a while.

You should check your modem to see that you have 4 Upstream Channels as the example below that are locked and around the mid 40 dBmv level . Since you have 338.5 Mb/s DL speeds you have the proper Modem Config You may need a service call

Channel Lock Status US Channel Type Channel ID Symbol Rate Frequency Power
1 Locked ATDMA 18 5120 Ksym/sec 23300000 Hz 41.5 dBmV
2 Locked TDMA 17 2560 Ksym/sec 18500000 Hz 42.0 dBmV
3 Locked ATDMA 19 5120 Ksym/sec 30600000 Hz 42.3 dBmV
4 Locked TDMA 20 2560 Ksym/sec 37000000 Hz 42.3 dBmV

I pay for 30/5 service on TWC, though the record speed for My address is 39.34 Mbps and 6.18 Mbps, w/a 12 ms ping.
