[OOL] Ultra 101 but upload speeds are less than 1Mbps on Long Island

I usually get average 60-90Mbps down and 30-35Mbps up, but for days my UL speed has been averaging .67Mbps, that's less than 1Mbps! I've rebooted the modem, router, bypassed the router, nothing makes a difference. Not sure if it's related but it seems I'm on a totally new subnet now, I used to be 24.X.X.X and now I'm on 69.X.X.X as of a few days ago.. The timing seems to coincide even though it doesn't make any sense.. Anyone else having this behavior on Long Island?

Really, they are throttling? I don't think so.

My service was fine all day in Ronkonkoma. It's either RF issues or bandwidth. Post your signal levels or call CV.

They're aren't throttling me, I called them up and opened a repair ticket, they did a test to the modem and said they're seeing "unexpected results back indicating I need a service call" so we'll see what happens when they come this morning.

They are throttling your connection temporarily. If you upload around 2 to 3 gigabytes in a one hour period they will bring you down to 1-2 megabits upload for about 20 to 30 minutes.

This is all just an estimation. I have this happen to me constantly. It's really bad when i'm on a Skype call to be honest.

It's part of their terms of service where you cannot negatively affect other customer's speeds or something like that.

ITs not throttling . ITs more like your node is saturated. I bet there is more then one optimum ultra user on your node.

Where is your Skype call going to? What devices is it between. I have huge Skype problems when one of the people are on an xbox one.

Check your status page for the modem, how many upstream channels do you have?

That doesn't happen with me. I usually upload and backup 35GB+ every night on google drive and it's done by the morning with no upload speed drops/throttling.

I have ultra 50/25 and I get the same problem. I receive 50mb download no problem and like BlueGrapes I get 25mb upload no problem when it comes to file hosting websites.

The problem I have is that my upload speeds stays at a constant 10mb when it comes to p2p uploading.

To trouble shoot the problem, I called optimum online. I was instructed to disconnect both modem and router for 15 sec and proceed to do a speed test where I received 50/29. Despite this my p2p upload speed didn't change. I then tested my upload speed with a file hosting website and received the full 25mb.

My second attempt to solve this was checking all the setting on my p2p program (Transmission - for ubuntu linux). I was able to increase and decrease the upload speeds. Rather than leaving the upload speed blank thinking that it might limit it to 10mb I set it up to 30mb, and saw no change.

My third attempt was to disconnect my router. I left my computer on all night (something I don't want to do) and my logs put my upload speeds for that night at an average of 10mb (im rounding up) with a peek of 19mb.

My fourth attempt was to have two p2p programs running in tangent. I found that for the entire day and night they split the upload speeds. doing these made the upload speed throttle and generally not passing 10mb.

My fifth attempt was to contact optimum online via chat again. I told the assistant about my upload speeds. I told him/her how I was receiving the full 25mb without a problem but believed that my p2p upload speeds were being limited to 10mb. The assistant asked for a few moments to research this and told me that optimum online does not limit speeds in any way.

My sixth attempt WILL be to have two or more computer running p2p downloads at the same time. I don't have more than two computers and I'm not going to have my gaming pc turned on all day. I have planning to buy two new low range gaming pc and test it at that time. If anyone has access to more than one computer and can test this for me, it would be much appreciated.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The reason I want to have my full 25mb upload speeds for p2p is.

I recently joined a community that release a 50gb torrent on a daily basis. there method of seeding these extremely large file is Tit for Tat. If your upload speed is good then you get priority. because my upload speed is set to 10mb, my download speed is set to 8mb-15mb on average. If I fail to get the file on the day it is released, then download speeds drop significantly, extending the download time to overnight and maybe an extra day meanwhile having another 50mb to download that very day.

In conclusion.

The reason I want my full 25mb upload for p2p is to complete my downloads from early morning to mid afternoon and not have my computer running 24hrs.

Well, WHY you want the speed is irrelevant. You are paying for it, you should have it. Period.

I, too have been having speed problems. I have Ultra 101. when my son is on xbox live my laptop slows down significantly. I have a WNDR3400 w/ a Docsis 3.0. they did tell me I had a speed problem on Twitter a while back. I just have been too busy to bother calling them to look into it.

I prob wont call until after I move and maybe then I won't even have a problem.
