Re: Many fiber questions

When you're talking about SLID, do you mean CVlan and SVlan ?

No, SLID and VLAN exist at different layers. The SLID makes sure the data is picked up by the correct ONT, the VLAN then makes sure the data ends up at the correct service end (VoIP, IPTV, internet router).

Bell uses cvlan and svlan for each ont, and each service have there appropriate vlan. I haven't seen slid anywhere, but there's a Mac.

As I said, VLAN and SLID exist at different layers, so they're not exclusive.

FTTH services are built to a SLID. You are assigned SLID 1007123456 and we then build 50/50 internet, IPTV and a VoIP service for 416-958-1199 on to it. The VLAN parameters are automatically populated when the services are built in. Before the fibre is connected to the ONT, the SLID is programmed in to it using e.g. a butt set. When you connect the fibre, the ONT will authenticate on the network, pull all the service parameters and you'll have your dial tone and data ready to go.
