I have been using those for some time, as well as others. And they do speed up page load, like you mention.

One working theory I have, is that websites are becoming more complicated in serving up and combining data to render a page. One bit of evidence is the sites Ghostery reports that it has prevented from loading crap. Of course, as I understand it, most are trackers and small in size. Also watching on some sites the activity in the lower left corner of the screen as a page loads. Also based on the differences in performance I experienced when I upgraded from my old Dell Latitude D610. Can't recall all the specs. but it was a Pentium M at 2 Ghz and max 2 Gigs Ram and onboard Video.

hortnut posted : I am aware, and yes Windows 7 Task Manager is much better than prior versions, but my habits at my age are linked to lightweight Utilities. Thank you for responding. I am sure you are aware of the below, but for others to explore:

I just find that Processor Explorer by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell and now under the Microsoft Family to be quicker and gives more information. As well as his other Utilities.

""The Sysinternals web site was created in 1996 by Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell to host their advanced system utilities and technical information. This Company sent out CD's to its customers and used Netscape to go through the Setup and Registration Process for its Dial Up customers. If I recall it was a Java issue with Netscape 'freezing'. We did not have the capabilities to do the Registration for them. And most all, only had one phone line and very few cells. Think it was 4.03. We did not follow 'scripts' and were given a lot of latitude at the time to solve problems, later they upgraded their CD's with a new version of Netscape.

Myself, I go back to whatever DOS version was out in 1984 and troubleshooting that for my business.

[Firefox] What I found slowing down Firefox

hortnut posted : As others have mentioned, I too have been seeing slowing of loading of pages in Firefox. For some reason, it seems worse with each new version of FF coming out. My machine - W7 Pro 64bit, 8 Gig Ram, i5, Comcast 50/10, Wireless N.

But then using Chrome and IE on same sites, was seeing slowdowns using those browsers.

Before doing anything, I did start FF with Addons Disabled - Help --> Restart with addons disabled. I then went over my Addons list and disabled ones that are installed that I am no longer using. From other threads, I disabled ones that I want to use, but others have mentioned to be problematic. Saw some changes doing this, so ended up disabling them for the time being.

With Chrome and IE still being slow and even Pale Moon, I suspected other Windows Programs causing slowdowns. I already have Process Explorer from Sysinternals installed so watched what was going on the background. »technet.microsoft.com/en ··· nternals for all Utilities, »technet.microsoft.com/en ··· nternals for Process Explorer.

Then started "What's my computer doing". »www.itsth.com/en/produkt ··· fromwmcd

What I discovered was that there were a number of Programs running processes that I assume were over seeing and monitoring what the Browsers were doing while loading Pages. As I started temporarily stopping those programs or tweaking what they were doing using their settings, Page Load times increased.

Programs that were slowing down [only speaking in general] Page Loads-
Antivirus
Addons
A Bandwith Monitor
My Backup Program
Windows 7 Programs/Processes
Sorry forgot some others, of course each persons setup will most likely be different.

The nice thing about the Program - "What my computer is doing", can ask it to monitor processes and programs, can freeze the listing of what is going on and then highlight questionable program/processes and it gives detailed information about the program/process and a link to search it out on Google.

All this can be quite tedious, but after stopping some unneeded Windows Processes, tweaking the settings in other Programs, now Firefox and the other Browsers are running much faster.

I have also found the sites that are pulling information from tons of other sites, in addition to their own, will naturally be slow.
