How to Prevent Adobe Reader from Opening PDFs

Whenever I click on a .pdf file from PM, it opens in the page. I want it to prompt me to either download it or open it in an application outside of the browser.

I followed Adobe's instructions (albeit for IE) they were useless. »antivirus.about.com/od/s ··· orer.htm

I've disabled the Adobe Reader plug-in and now get a warning that "This plugin is disabled, etc.".

Under TOOLS, OPTIONS, and APPLICATIONS, I have everything with even a mention of Adobe or PDF to be "always ask".

Any ideas would be welcome.

I have foxit reader and have in preferences block it from internet access but I also have the file association for adobe to save because I have found in the past adobe has never asked.
When saved I get it to my desktop then can throw away or read.

Which file association are you referring to? The PM one or the OS one? I do have the PM one set to "ask" but it still doesn't.

bbear, in PM's "addons", look to see if any addons or plugins are associated with "adobe PDF reader" and uninstall them, or disable them, if they are..

in PM's "about:config", set "pdfjs.disabled" to "true"..

(to open PM's "about:config", type "about:config" in PM's address-bar)..

also, in PM's "applications", have the settings for PDF-files (however they are labeled) set to "always ask"..

(in FF's "applications", i use "always ask" for PDF files.. that gives me the option of saving the file or opening it with foxit reader)..

in the future, when you are installing adobe PDF reader, you could try doing a custom install and see if there are options for not installing browser plugins.. that is what i do with the foxit PDF reader program..

Seems like a nice endorsement for Foxit Reader. Sort of OT, but I will give that a try and unload the adobe plugin, etc. Thanks.
