Re: [Help] Pipe exaust repair.

And since you are in cali if this was done at all recently you likely bought an illegal converter (that the local retailer could NOT sell you) so scratch that comparison off the list.

You can not resell (for use) used emissions shit, another not legal tick for you.

The replacement cat likely was a universal shit one... that won't work anywhere next to as long as the other cat (also see above of not legal)

15-20min you got charged $45. @ 20min you were charged a rate of $135/h I do not think dealers even get that around here... I know goodyear is like $100/hour.

It is not going to take 15min to install that flex pipe on the OP's car.

and it WAS a legal install see: »www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/af ··· base.htm

You just got owned......

Legally it was sold as "metal scrap" I used legal "loop hole terms" and exploited them.
and if it was not legal to sell the scrap people would not be stealing them and scraping them at your local scrap yard.

there was no reusing it since the honey cone was totally trashed anyways.

I got nothing, you gave a link that means nothing...

Pretty sure that list does not say "random ebay cat" Now if you would like to post a link to the ebay cat you bought...

I'm very willing to bet, while nothing would *ever* come of it... if you sold the cat to a private party, and do not have a bill of sale stating "SCRAP ONLY" they could get you. Will they no, but again in your example...

Cat's really aint pulling $130 in scrap anymore... so I doubt you sold it to a scrap yard.

I sure as hell know a legal cat was not *new* $90 when the used one scrap price was $130.

EPA btw...

"5) What about using converters from salvage yards or junked cars?

EPA considers it a violation of the policy to install a used converter from a salvage yard or sell it for reuse unless it has been properly tested and labeled."

Now not to get OT here...

But do not use an example of illegal activity to say someone is getting ripped off...

That cat large wire type has a scrap value of about $75 +/- as per several online index. I doubt that you would be able to double the price of it in your area, especially if there was nothing left of the comb. You can verify that you sold it for scrap by posting what scrap yard you sold it to, from there its real easy to determine what they pay for that type of cat. IF you used the term scrap to sell a functioning cat to an unsuspecting person to use on there car..... I like it how you are OK with using loopholes and exploiting things, but let a person post a price for something (something you know nothing about the cost of doing.) and you're quick to call the mechanic a ripoff artist.

As an aside, when scrapping cats yards pay pennies on the dollar for aftermarket cats and top dollar for OEM. Stop and ponder why that might be....
