[bug] Comments with front page posts

What is wrong with the front page posts? I've noticed within what seems like the last few weeks something is seriously wrong with the comment sections for the front page articles. The number of comments listed for each article in many cases is 2 to 3 times higher than the number of comments actually displayed.

A more extreme example... it says there are 34 comments. Click on the article and it shows zero.

I am seeing a link at the bottom that says 34 comments click to read... when clicked I see comments: »/forum ··· ays=2000

It doesn't show that for me. So there is something broken on the site.

I clicked your link again and now wish I would have taken a screenie of "34 comments click to read" because I no longer see it.. and I am not subject to illusions either

What I am seeing now is the article and underneath lots of comments...27 to be exact. I am stumped. :/

For me it just shows "comments?" which is what is shown when the article is brand new and there are no comments, but obviously something else is up.

Try clearing your browser cache.

The browser might send a "if-modified-since" request and get back a reply that the page has not been modified since that time, so then it'll show you the cached page. But I checked while logged out, and the page is ok, plus, the If-modified-since only allows caching of a previous page if the time is after the last comment added to the end of the news article.

Yes, seems to be pointing in the right direction. Sounds like a bug server side. I keep having to clear the cache to see newer comments.

Update the topic if you still see this happening.

One observation. It feels like this site is run from a cluster of systems that is not very well synced. I noticed when trying to reload pages here that if I reload a bunch of times that an article for example that has 8 comments would jump around between 8, 3, 5, 8, 5, 3 comments. Not necessarily in that exact order but you get the idea. If I reload after clicking through to an article and reload a bunch of times that sometimes, although a lot less likely, the comments are there or not. Still something IMO very wrong on the server side.

It would be difficult as it is one database and one server, however you might be falling into some frequently accessed page caching. If you are a member the whole page cache stuff is skipped.

Wow, then that makes what I am seeing all that much more odd.

I find it really hard to track new comments made after I've posted because it defaults to the "flat" view. I find that one to be really annoying and confusing!
