Google domain cautionSo I was over the border into the canada section of the forum, someone said they were getting redirected to malware site by trying to visit google.ca in the domain, assuming they spelled it correctly
I decided to do a simple check as in a user hits an extra letter and low and behold, if you use gooogle (dot) ca instead of google.ca you get a domain that redirects to various malware sites. Only other website that responds is googlee (dot) ca but that leads to another search powered by google.
Does anyone have any idea how to let google know. if you use gooogle.com it redirects properly.
*Note if you are going to try and visit that website you NEED NO-script. Ghostry and u-block will not stop some pages. The domain redirects to various malware websites. From my Ip tracert to domain lookup on the domain I added few those IP's to my firewall blacklist.
Anyone else's ISP redirecting to malware site using gooogle (dot) ca? |

Since Google knows all, I'm sure they are aware of the endless iterations of their name available on the internet. This business of your ISP providing redirections when it tries to interpret a misspelling from your address bar, is always a thrill. Malware sites only have consequences if you interract with them rather than just take a look. Nothing really new here. |

I forget the correct terminology (cybersqatting or something like that?) if you misspell a domain, such as gooogle or googlee, the site you end up with can (and does) do nefarious things. It's not a new thing, and I'm sure they know about it. |
