Re: Switch to Bell Fibe and speedtest result subpar

Well technically it does have wireless AC but i believe it is AC750. Also the device automatically defaults back to G or N 2.4 ghz if there are devices that dont support 5 ghz AC. your best bet is to split the channels, name the 5ghz SSID something different and set it to AC-only. You should get pretty close to 40-45 mbps, then every thing else on the 2.4 ghz channel will see the poor 20-odd mbps.

AC750 generally can provide speeds of about 400 mbps. Getting "pretty close to 40-45 mbps isn't mediocre, especially when Bell calls it "the very best in the world, let's you enjoy the fastest Wi-Fi speeds".

Those are very low-end devices by even the most liberal of definitions.

Laptop wifi right beside Home Hub 2000
Well I did some more speed test and it's gotten better. With my desktop pc with wifi through my netgear I get 49.91 Mbps download and 40.92 Mbps upload. If I do the same speedtest with my pc through the home hub 2000 I get only 14.83 Mbps down and 27.62 Mbps up.

With my windows XP laptop hardwired into my netgear I get 52.44Mbps down/52.00Mbps UP and with the same laptop on WIFI with the built-in wireles G card I get 50.39Mbps Down/51.52 Mbps Up, right beside the home hub 2000 and similar results on the netgear WIFI. So I guess the Netgear is better for longer range Wifi but the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz is split on the netgear, maybe that makes a diffence

Wireless AP for TV receiver

For those who are interested in seeing the equipment they installed here are the pictures. This is a temporary setup since my basement is being finished, the equipment will all be in the structured wiring cabinet in the future. The fiber is plugged in a recessed hole in the back of the ONT and a cover slips over to cover it and then the ONT can then me mounted flush against the wall.

There are so many variables for wifi speeds, there could be interference from all kinds of materials in your home. Maybe you are in an apartment building and all your neighbours are interfering? Maybe you have concrete walls? Or metal studs? How many devices are online when your running these tests as that will affect speeds? What channel are you on on the home hub? Auto? If you have Fibe TV and you are running the maximum amount of streams (3HD, 1SD) then this could affect speeds. If your profile in webcare is on the wrong one then that will affect speeds. I mean realistically it's not easy to pinpoint wifi slow speeds
