[WiFi] DPC3941T rebooted overnight now has xfinity public SSIDWhen I got my DPC3941T a few months ago it was not broadcasting the xfinity SSID. Seems that it rebooted itself last night and today it is now broadcasting the xfinity hotspot SSID, and it still also has the blank no name channel that you can see with inSSIder. Must have hit others on the street also seems there are more xfinity SSID's showing up on the street.
Anyone else? |

[WiFi] Re: DPC3941T rebooted overnight now has xfinity public SSIDYes, many others. See this large thread » [WiFi] xfinitywifi channelBottom line is, you will be running a hamster wheel trying to keep xfinitywifi disabled; it will keep coming back periodically, as you have noticed. It is a convenient "technical glitch" for Comcast to keep promoting their wifi service. All I can say is, get your own modem + router, if you can, and ditch the Comcast rental. |

You saw this in your modem's config? I have the DPC3939 and I only see my own SSIDs on Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi.
I have however noticed a strong signal for "xfiniitywifi" but assumed that was from a neighbor. |

Update: Well, shit. It was coming from my modem, even there is no obvious setting within the gateway interface to see this is the case. Instructions for turning it off: quote: How do I disable/enable the XFINITY WiFi Home Hotspot feature?
We encourage all subscribers to keep this feature enabled as it allows more people to enjoy the benefits of XFINITY WiFi around the neighborhood. You will always have the ability to disable the XFINITY WiFi feature on your Wireless Gateway by calling 1-800-XFINITY. You can also visit My Account at »customer.comcast.com/, click on Users & Preferences, and then select Manage XFINITY WiFi.

Yes I have been aware of the whole xfinity SSID thing in general, had it with my old modem.
But this modem came new from the xfinity store without it enabled. What I was specifically asking did anyone else have theirs get enabled by itself last night. It seems to have hit my whole street. Was this widespread?
And yes Wily I was able to turn it back off per the directions you posted, thanks. |

They recently enabled xfinitywifi on the DPC3939 not that long ago. I guess they're finally getting around to the DPC3941T now. |

Re: [WiFi] DPC3941T rebooted overnight now has xfinity public SSIDAnd this thread is the exact reason why you shouldn't rent these things from Comcast. I highly recommend to get your own cable modem and router, and be done with the whole hidden and public xfinitywifi thing. |
