Recommendation on SATA III Backplane for desktops

Can anyone recommend a good SATA III backplane for a desktop (for 3.5 inch drives)? I have three empty 5.25 bays I can mount it in.

I've looked at a bunch of them, but I'm hoping for some personal experiences.

I'd go with icydock.

Hmm, are they still good, I'm seeing some...not too good reviews when I look at the 3x5.25 slot ones.

Or at least some of them have issues with quality.

EDIT: I see reviews like this on most sites that sell it

I had heard good things, though that unit only has 2 reviews so the sample size is kinda small.

I have three of these:

Rosewill RSV-SATA-Cage-34

»www.newegg.com/Product/P ··· 16132037

When I bought them they were on sale for about ~$35 USD. Back then the focus was the overall cost, convenience and functionality which made them worthwhile. Having said that, I would probably buy them again given a similar price but not if they were much more.

The overall construction is OK save for the plastic trays which feel a bit flimsy (but I have yet to damage any).

A tray-less tool free design would be preferable though because some time is wasted by having to deal with screws,...

I went with the Rosewill one for now.

I'll probably spring for one of the Icydock ones when I upgrade my case in late August.

I installed three RSV-SATA-Cage-34 units in an Antec 900 series tower case. When doing so I found that the power and SATA connections were on the same side as the motherboard tray when using what I believe to be the most logical installation orientation. This makes adding and removing the power and SATA cables difficult when the product is installed in the case. Therefore I had to make the connections and then install the cages.

The other option is to simply flip the install orientation. I've seen this done on Rosewill rack mounted server cases that come with the RSV-SATA-Cage-34 preinstalled. This wasn't really an option for me though. While I typically have my server's case on its side (horizontal) if I were to rotate it the case vertically I would naturally want the HDD trays facing upwards. Therefore I had to install the RSV-SATA-Cage-34 units with the power and SATA connections down towards the motherboard tray.

It's done.

3rd slot is not hooked up as the sata connection goes to the top slot in my case.

When I upgrade my case in late August, I'll be getting one of the Icy Dock ones and planning with that one in mind.
