[VA] Enhanced Error Results not disabling and funky IPI switched to OpenDNS for the filtering features. But watching their IP updater app I see my IP is bouncing between my regular address and 92.242.140.2.
Googling that IP, I find old posts that it is somehow related to Cox's "Enhanced Error Results" (ERR) and/or DNS hijacking. So I disabled the ERR via the Cox tools... but next day I still get that IP coming up and the ERR results when I put in incorrect URLs.
Anyone have any ideas?

Here's a link to an article describing another method by which you can opt out of the enhanced error resutls: » www.cox.com/residential/ ··· 00000000This method will also work with other DNS server addresses although we only provide technical support for ours. |

That hadn't popped up in a search results. Thanks for the link. Should the link at » myaccount.cox.net/intern ··· tout.cox work? Is there something that I'm missing? Do you know if the IP 92.242.140.2 is normal? Dave |

I'm not actually familiar with that IP. The link works for many but has been known to have issues for some. The article I suggested is the most effective and verifiable method in my opinion. |

Yes, I agree that it should be the perfect, preferred, solution. I find my Linksys routers strip the NIC's DNS settings in favor of the router DNS settings. Linksys call it a feature.
Thanks for the help! |

FYI you can also manually configure the DNS servers in the router. That should cause them to be in effect for the entire home network. |

Do you know if Cox still use/partner with Barefruit for DNS/HTTP handling? |

Yep it does, but I can still getting Cox Enhanced Error results despite it being disabled and having OpenDNS setup in the router. |

Have you tried going direct static DNS on the NIC and clearing the DNS cache on the machine? Its possible only new DNS query requests are being sent to WAN and your still seeing old cached Cox DNS results. Maybe a DNS proxy? Sounds like it by the way you describe your Linksys router. Also, is your Grandstream VOIP device before or after that router? What happens when you do a nslookup from CMD? What is answering the request? Also, when you say your seeing the IP change, do you mean your public IP address? Why would this change? Are you using OpenDNS for a DNS service or a DDNS service? |

Harry, Thanks for responding. Most of my IP work has been closed, locked down, LANs so DNS is new enough. I'm still working on this, tweaking router and client settings to try get to the bottom of why and when I see my public IP is that Barefruit IP. I'll repost soon! BTW - Thanks for that other thread. I'm following it closely » How does DNS opt-out work? because in my experience it doesn't work. Dave |
