Dell says don't update to Windows 10I have a Dell VOSTRO 460, Windows 7 installed. Dell says don't upgrade to W10 because they haven't developed any Drivers for this particular model. I have the Microsoft Window in the tray, bottom right corner. Would Microsoft have the drivers for this PC? Has anyone tried to do the Windows 10 upgrade on the 460? TIA |

Only if the manufacturers of each piece of hardware (not Dell, they only assemble the hardware) have developed and made drivers available for Microsoft to distribute (usually via Windows Update), otherwise Windows might already have basic/generic support for most of your devices. Without knowing your particular Vostro 460 configuration it is hard to say for sure. |

I can't speak directly to your possible experience with your laptop but I did the insider program using my Dell Vostro 1710 for which Dell never had any drivers for Win 7 let alone 10 and I've had no problems whatsoever on either version.
If you're really concerned, just make an image of your current system before upgrading, then if you have any issues/regrets, you can go back. |

It could be something as simple as an SD card reader in the laptop not being supported, which will then delay the whole upgrade until that one driver is ready. I forced the Win10 upgrade on a laptop recently with a card reader for which no Win10 drivers were available. The laptop still works, but to the owner, the card reader is not important. |

As darcilicious said... If the Installer rejects due to the OS version, I've found that (Sometimes) Extracting the drivers (using WinZip/7Zip,etc.), and installing the drivers manually through Hardware manager will do the trick... |

Thanks, its a tower. Anyway Dell supports at least 5 other VOSTROS but not mine. I'll try to make a image. I upgraded a Intel NUC with all W10 drivers installed prior to the upgrade with the exception of a printer driver. The NUC had a old HP printer driver installed. The printer worked fine after upgrade and it had a new User Interface. Thanks |

I have a Dell Inspiron. Dell's web site said this laptop is NOT compatible with win10. The win10 icon I had near the clock for weeks said this laptop was ready/compatible for win10.
Long story short, I got win 10 and had issues from the monitor driver, card reader, and it totally trashed the bluray player/burner.
I am back on win 7 and don't plan on going back to 10 anytime soon for more reasons than what I just mentioned. (the cd-rom still doesn't work after going back to 7)
Bottom line...I should have listened to Dell. |

In Device manager, Uninstall the CD-ROM drive, then Restart. See if it gets re-detected and the driver reinstalled... |
