Speaking of POE, while I've installed a fair share of network jacks in my home about 7 years ago, recently I've moved to POE for my cameras.
I re purposed some of the drops in my home that were not being used for the new hikvision cameras i had and purchased a rack mount injector for the network:

While i had no issues on the rack side moving cables over, the ends on the cameras needed to be cut and crimped.
Lets just say it took about 3 times before i remembered to power off the injector before cleaning up the ends on the cable...nothing like sparks at the jack, an alarm from the APC UPS freaking out, and my dog crying because who knows what sounds that thing made when clipped.
TL:DR - Dont terminate POE drops while powered.
