Itguy2016 posted : I'm returning the Arris Gateway Combo and going back to my gear. I've found the Arris/TG combos to be a bit picky/unreliable compared to what I am used to. (enterprise grade gear) I kind of wasted a lot of time on all of this and need to get back to what worked and what was stable as soon as possible. <sigh>

Get yourself a ASUS RT-AC87U for about $235 (Microcenter, Best Buy). Plug it into the wall, put a patch cord into it from a laptop (Port1-Lan) and the interface will pop up on the first browser you open. Skip the wizard. Update the firmware to the latest (7410). Have mine currently mounted second floor to the bedroom hallway ceiling so it points down and covers the entire house. No power cords!

Itguy2016 posted : Can you set preamble? (Long800ns or Short400ns)? If so - set it to long.

Use a phone app and see the wireless activity in the area. Remember - channels 1, 6, and 11 are the only 'true' channels. Everything else is a sub-channel where congestion is offloaded. Try forcing the wireless to 1, 6 or 11 (least congested) and let the people in your area that don't know better use auto-channel and sit in the blenders.

If none of that works - I'd follow the other persons suggestion - disable wireless on the primary device and put a good AP into the mix - ensuring DHCP is still done on the router.

Body Count posted : There are several posts on this forum about how UltraTV wireless is crap.

If you want good signal, buy your own access point and use that instead. Make sure you turn DHCP off on the access point you buy. You want UltraTV handing out IP's, not your unit. This is so you can share files and stream content off your computers correctly.

Yetskii posted : Just got set up with Ultra setup with the new media box and have noticed that the wireless really sucks . it seems to like to time out frequently or slow down to a crawl. I have had to hardwire the Girlfriends Alienware, even though it was 10 feet away. I have set it to B/G only as all our devices are G in the house, although I am uncertain of all the phones. Power is set to high in settings. I have moved it to slightly different locations, although I am somewhat limited due to cable length. The Modem is in the upstairs of the house approximately in the middle. Anything else I can do except purchase a router? Was using the old style Arris for over 2 years without this issue.
--
www.homelanfed.com
