We called COX and they said they had to send an initial "reset" signal and that's why it did the reboot, however, last night at 10pm it mysteriously rebooted itself once again (3rd time since we've had it). We'll see if it reboots automatically again today - if so - it's going back (frustrating when you're online doing something!!)

Yeah I'm personally well aware of that :) I think I discussed this with Chris a couple years ago regarding the eMTA. I just think if cox is gonna rent this gateway eMTA, why not throw in a battery backup. With the older eMTA's I fully understand stopping providing the batteries, as they were free of charge with phone service. I wonder in the past, was it required by law for Cox to provide a battery backup?

So why not make it optional, but still free? My point is, isn't Cox charging the customer something that it use to provide free? For alot of people, the only reason to even have Cox telephone is for emergencies. I keep a land around just for that purpose. This seems more like a cost cut to me, and if you look, all the cable providers seemed to stop offering it around the same time... hmmmmm..

I don't know the exact number, but the vast majority of people have powered cordless phones. Backing up the eMTA at that point becomes largely irrelevant.

You will be lucky to reach up to 100mpbs on 2.4GHz band, we all know to many things interfere with that band. 5GHz band only way really to get them kind of speed's over wireless, however 5GHz band range is like half of what you will get with 2.4GHz band.

There is no such thing as a "phone-only model". All eMTA have ethernet ports. Maybe you mean only data/phone modems are free and not data/phone/wireless? I thought you were saying you got the TG2472 without charge. So if someone want's a eMTA that will work on Ultimate 300 they have to pay?

Can this be confirmed by a Cox employee? I am not doubting chris_c21 claim, but I wonder if that was out of ignorance on part of the store representative and not actual Cox policy. Another question is if you have phone service, is the gateway free?

For people with Ultimate 300 and phone service who don't want a separate phone modem, the TG2472 is the only way to go currently. Hopefully Cox will approve the Cisco DPC3216, which is the successor to the DPQ3212, for customers who want a 16x4 eMTA without the gateway function.

no tech required, I just handed over my old DPQ3212 at the solutions store and got the Arris. Because I had to have a tech out when I first got phone, maybe I bypassed the required truck roll

@spiketoo mine is a rental, I was renting the DPQ3212 as part of the bundle but had it in a drawer since I already had an (8-channel) modem provisioned. Since I have to pay for the rental, I figured why not actually get some benefit from it.

I don't think Cox can sell you a Phone modem gateway. Also, you can't buy something and have a technician deliever it. When you order something, your buying it from the warehouse, so the warehouse has to mail it to you. If they are just sending a technician and hoping he has not just has a phone modem, not even a phone modem gateway, but the newest phone modem gateway, then I think your going to be out of luck.

So I guess Cox is using a different seed to create the password, but that process should work with the correct one. I asked a couple friends but they are not aware, so it's probably not documented. Wish I had one so I could play with it. I wonder if finding out what the direct html input for that screen is would work.

Had a tech come out and re-do the drop from box to house as modem was dropping errors. They charged me for both truck roll and self install kit. What kit? Modem-in-a-box? Got both charges reversed.

Why won't it work? And if not, what will? Its obvious Cox doesn't want customers in there, and that's exactly why I want to know whats in there. If the config file is listed there, then it could help troubleshoot the Ultimate 300 issue..which Cox has caused again.

I looked through every page and did not find any info on a config file, only a couple references in the event log: "ConfigFile - BadParam"

There is an Advanced tab however, but it requires a 'password of the day' so I'm assuming only techs can get in there...
