Re: Google faster? Nope.

This isn't fake.

This is my desktop with a DLink 10Gbps fiber SFP+ connection to the ISP at full 10Gbps.

The point was, I can get 2.2Gbps by 5.9Gbps on a speed test outside of the ISP, but Google fiber app test above it only shows 807Mbps.

Well, if you're only getting a paltry 2.2Gbps down you really should complain to the ISP.

Another curiosity - what kind of bandwidth-intensive application do you use at the desktop that needs a 10Gb connection? 10Gb equipment and fiber to the desktop is still a pricey investment.

Ah is confusing then as according to this, the ISP you are using only offers up to 1Gb. Are you performing test in Avative Intranet site on 10Gb maybe or do they offer over 1Gbit.

Yeah, the issue with bonding Nics is a single connection can only go as fast one of the connections in the link. So if you have 2 1Gbps links bonded, you can still only pull 1Gbps for a file like an ISO between machines. Microsoft is doing some stuff with SMB 3 to get around this but a lot of protocols can only go as fast as a single link.

The advantage of bonded links is that 2 people could pull 1Gbps file downloads as the same time over the same network and each get 1Gbs for total of 2Gbps throughput. Networking at the University sometimes does this. Some buildings they will bond 2 one gig links and other buildings they will use a 10 gig link to the core switch. The move is to eventually go 10 gig to all buildings. The core is already 10 gig.

Single faster links are always better in networking than bonded links. Now they need to start getting 10 Gig to commodity pricing like 1Gbps is today.

So I guess the moral of IntraLink's post is that Google's ad machine doesn't really know everything. It's interesting that Google is really starting to push and brand Google Fiber to so many new markets.
