Re: Arris now has a retail modem that will work with 300+ WOW?

I stand corrected. I saw a video of the Arris menus today and sure enough there's a 'bridge mode'. Very confusing to those that know the details of networking, but I guess it makes it easier for the support people to work with the units since the terminology is the same even though they really aren't doing the same thing. I didn't know the other brands are calling it the same thing, so I guess it's become a 'standard'. Thank you for the correction.

You're a network professional? What field? I'm only a lowly CCNA. Well, I was until a year ago. Medical issues prevented me from working so I didn't bother to renew.

I don't have any certs, but was always helping my friend with a CCNA and CCNP figure out the tough problems in his first job. I'm self-taught, so I only brush up on things as I need to. I like to typically put things in place that work until I want to change them vs a forced change due to technology or company dependence.

In my experience, self-taught individuals tend to have a better understanding of the ins and outs. They're more hands on. I had classmates who were all theory and I ended up carrying them through because they had no real experience.

Initiative to self teach in this field is rare. Kudos!

I see this too. One of my good friend's wife is got her A+ certification and works in IT at Volvo. She didn't even know where to begin to set up a site-to-site vpn using a cisco smb router even when talked through it by me. This is why I don't want try to get a job in the industry--too many morons with a piece of paper get a job before someone that actually knows their stuff. Oh well, my knowledge for my own purposes has served me well. I've built $20k networks for under $1k.
