Centurylink sold dsl service, but local engineer says perm exhaustGentlemen,
I had a new house constructed for my family at [Removed]Rustburg, VA 24588. I was contacted by Centurylink before the house was completed. Centurylink saw my location and offered me a bundled package of telephone, dsl and direct tv service package. I stated that one neighbor did indeed, have their dsl, but another did not. The neighbor that did not have dsl was told by the local area engineer that the box was full-i.e. permanent exhaust. Even after I told that to the Centurylink sales guy, he said "his" engineers could see that there were still unassigned addresses in that box (a dslam box built in 2012 by Embarq, located about 7000 feet from my house on Browns Mill road).
Now my house is built and the local techs and engineer refuse to take my calls even though I have repeatedly left my number and had them paged through all the customer 1-855 numbers for Century link operators (who have been very kind, by the way). They will not allow me to have dsl and I have a Centurylink router/ modem in my house, not in use. My wife is an on-line STEM professor and requires internet to teach. Is there anyone that can reprimand the local techs/engineer or give me a way to go over their heads to get the same Centurylink dsl my neighbor has who says it works "great". There are obviously ports in the dslam not in use. Centurylink has even told me that. Why won't these guys open the box and assign me an address? There are only about 45 houses near the dslam box.
Please, can a centurylink person come to my rescue? |

Yes, the message returned is "The *** remote terminal is unable to provide service to new customers due to bandwidth exhaust." This is ATM copper to the node equipment.
So since this is not fed by fiber you will most likely be out of luck until a neighbor drops off or they add additional capacity in some sort of way. I'm not sure if they have waiting lists, or if your timing has to be good to get an available spot in the future. |

If Verizon works in your area, buy a Verizon Grandfathered Unlimited Data account from eBay, it'll cost you a few hundred bucks, but once you get it, just change the plan to the $15 30-minute retention plan and pick up a home 4G LTE router
The SIM cards work in those no problem and for $65/mo you get truly unlimited data for your house from LTE. I have a few of these lines setup for family members back in Ohio and use one myself at my cabin. I've had it for a few years and it works great with no issue from VZW
Now, when changing the plan, just have the SIM inside a Verizon PHONE and tell them you want to just use data.. once the plan is changed you can then pop it in a router as the plan is only supposed to be used in phones, but the agreement they made to get their LTE spectrum from the government disallows them from stopping you putting it inside of a router. |
