Re: Apartment question

said by fartness:

I know, I was just using it as an example. I wouldn't move out that far.

Please note that you will be lied by realtors about just about anything, starting from safety of the neighborhood to parking availability.

About parking: here is what I did when I moved last time: I would ask realtor to give me approx location within a block radius (I wouldn't even want to see an apartment at this time). I would then come there at night several times and tried to find street parking so that next morning I wouldn't have to move car due to cleaning. If I spent more than 15 minutes on it I would not consider this location anymore.

For free/easy street parking the best areas are with mostly 1-2 family houses (everyone has a garage or driveway) with some apartment buildings (some have garages but there is often waiting list) here and there. I live in such area (near train too) and when I come back from work it takes me about 3-5 minutes 95% of the time to find a spot within 1 block radius from my house. Note that I drive to work every day now and am not concerned about morning street cleaning now (I leave before they start).

I got over my bumper being scratched about... 15 years ago? You park on the street in the city, your bumper will get scratched. All these bumper guards are funny

BTW, the largest scratch (really a small crack) on my bumper is from when I got overexcited about good parking spot and backed into a fire hydrant while making a U-turn

I have family that grew up around Kings Highway and some letter intersection that I don't remember what it is (maybe P or Q). I went there a year or two ago and it seemed like a quiet suburban neighborhood like I might see upstate. Would that have free parking in front of the houses? I walked down a side street that had no traffic and everyone had driveways, etc. I didn't look to see if there was any parking signs on the streets, or if there's a city-wide parking rule that addresses quiet streets like that.
