[Quantum] TV's Not In SyncWith this blazing speed we have, why are my TV's in some cases 5-10 seconds out of sync? Is there a way to sync them? Before I upgraded to Quantum, I could get my TV's to sync almost right on time. With Quantum, they aren't even close. I have heard the server excuse already. Same lame excuses when I ask about the guide lag. Come on, we pay a small fortune for this service. Fix something rather doing your foolish upgrades to the guide format. How about a good answer, like, yes, we can fix it. |

Unless your TV sets are in the same or adjacent room I don't see why this is a problem. |

You can always try pulling the plug on both the STBS, waiting, then plugging back in if you haven't already. |

I've seen this happen. It seems to be worse if one tv has a HD channel on and the other a SD channel. I think being in sync is actually worse though cause you get an annoying echo effect. I've been able to fix it by hitting the channel button either go up one or down one then back that usually fixes it. Don't use the last button to do it that doesn't work. |

I've got two DVR's and a regular box and they're never in sync. It's never bothered me though, trying to think of a use case where this would be an issue. |

How can they guarantee the channels are in sync? There will always be network delays between IPC and VMS. And I agree with other post, why is this a big deal? I have never seen 5-10 seconds. Maybe 1 second. |

Awhile back there was an extensive thread on this behavior. You might try to search the forum for that thread as it explains what's happening and why it is virtually impossible to synchronize playing content across devices. |

If it's a DVR then it is never live TV. Content is written to the hard drive first and then read off of it for viewing. So then if you have multiple boxes, they might not be in the exact same spot when viewing content. |

I have non-Quantum TV and have the sync issue quite frequently. |

I have non-Quantum TV and have the sync issue quite frequently. Your operative word is "occasionally." The non-DVR STBs obviously do not buffer. |

I was merely pointing out that despite the difference in the way DVR boxes work, it does not mean they can never be in sync with non-DVR boxes. My experience is about a 1/3rd of the time they seem to be okay. It just depends what the DVR has been doing. |

The TV industry is all about synching on time. Local broadcasters inject commercials solely by the time and it has to be in sync. So, it can technically be done - it just would require the devices to sync to a common time code.
For my family being out of sync is a problem. We have a TV in the family room and one in the kitchen and you can hear both at the same time. The kitchen is a satellite box and is consistently 2-3 seconds ahead of the main box in the family room. Muting one is not a solution since the sound does not match. Watching sports is really annoying when you hear touchdown from the kitchen before the ball is snapped in the family room.
Yes, I know this is a first world problem. But, given how much we pay for FiOS, this should not be happening. |

Wait until tonight when one room is cheering in the New Year and you are still counting down, lol. |

Actually, local commercials are automatically injected based an inaudible tone that is broadcast by the content provider. So local time is not applicable. |

We cheered for a basket, and then 10 seconds later (doesn't sound like a long time, but it is in this case) the other room cheered. It was pretty funny. |
