[Networking] FIOS app to reset ONT?

has anyone verified if you can have the ONT release your DHCP connection?

when I spoke with a lady on the phone about this issue cause I was changing router firmware and she said she thinks the app can do that, just a headsup for those who have it

eival,

The ONT does not either hold or release an IP address; the ONT merely converts the optical of the fiber to the electrical signal used by the router. The DHCP "lease" can be released either by disconnecting the router from the ONT and waiting for the DHCP server at Verizon to break the lease, typically about 2 hours, or connecting a computer directly to the ONT. I do not use a Verizon router so I cannot comment about them, however I understand there is a page in the Verizon router which can be used to break the lease.

In my case, with a laptop running Windows connected directly to the Ethernet connection of the ONT (I do not use MOCA) it is easy to open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /release", this has worked every time. When the Verizon Tech was here to install the ONT, I did this a number of times when we switched between the Verizon router he used for testing the install, and my router which I use long-term. I have occasionally changed to different routers for testing and this works every time.

Good luck.

They are not telling the ONT to release the DHCP . It is being released from the Gateway router it is connected. And no, there is no App or any other way for the public to access it.

FiOS router includes ability to release the DHCP lease.
1. My Network icon on top row
2. Network Connections in left window
3. Click on Broadband Connection
4. Click on Settings button at bottom
5. Click on Release button on DHCP line about 2/3 of the way down
6. Immediately power off the router or disconnect it from WAN link. Otherwise it'll start DHCP all over.

Just where you would expect to find it.

DHCP lease is typically based on MAC address/device name. Firmware update doesn't change those, so you shouldn't need to release DHCP lease.

Replacing router is different situation. Releasing DHCP lease from old router ensures new one gets online immediately.

I have a 3rd party router.... it has nothing to do with them contacting my router, its the ONT

it acts as a modem, storing the WAN ip, when you connect a router to it, it syncs to the mac address, if you change that without releasing it keeps looking for that, unless you can reset the modem/ONT

ive been doing this with FIOS for over 6 years now.

Again, It is not the ONT that is holding the lease or the MAC. There are only 2 ways to get the DHCP released.
1 -as nickfie wrote out .
2 getting the gateway router to release the DHCP.
The ways to do that are through the online self help or through the automated phone support menu. Or, calling in and getting it released.
The ONT is a pass though / fiber conversion devise.

The ONT in no way does the things that you describe. It is simply a device that converts pulses representing bits sent via optical media to bits sent via wire media (MOCA coax or Ethernet cable). A cable modem is a type of network bridge. An ONT is not as it does not bridge networks -- is simply is an interface media conversion device that converts the three FiOS fiber optical bands (1310 nm wavelength for upstream data; 1490 nm wavelength for downstream data ; and 1550 nm wavelength for QAM cable television) to coax (for TV or Internet traffic although Internet can be provisioned to convert the Internet to Ethernet), or phone lines.
