said by AwaKeN:I have just bought a 5 ports managable switch, I want to know what is the configuration I need to configure to put my router in it.
For what I have read, I will do:
Port 1 = ONT
Port 2 = R6300 = VLAN 35
Port 3 = HH2000 = VLAN 36
Do I need to asign VLAN 35 and 36 to the ONT port ?
Do I need to asign VLAN 36 to the HH2000 to get the applications working on my TVs ?
Thanks for your help !
I have a Dlink DGS-1100 5-port managed switch. It is configured as follows:
Port 1 = ONT: tagged vid35 & tagged vid36
Port 2 = HH2000: tagged vid35 & tagged vid36
Port 3 = my Tomato router: untagged vid35
I chose not to use the VLAN capablities in Tomato firmware. Since Bell's FTTH infrastructure requires tagged packets on the VLANs, I let the DGS do the tagging for my internet traffic. (IE, it accepts untagged packets from Tomato on Port 3, tags them, and sends them out (tagged for vid35) to the ONT.
I also enabled traffic segmentation for ports 2 & 3 on the DGS. This prevents traffic flow between the WAN ports on the two routers.
