FTTH now available in parts of St KittsMy cousin lives in the Facer St area of St Catharines and told me about Bell stringing up new cables onto poles around the area.
He got a flyer in the mail today offering Gigabit FTTH with Fibe TV.
We checked Bell website with his postal code and sure enough it said Gigabit FTTH was available. I think it was about $150 per month regular price for Internet only.
Other speeds are offered too. Just thought I would post this. It's a shame indie ISP's can't get access to this, so we could get lower prices.
Hopefully this will be expanding across St Catharines for everyone. |

Yeah, they started that work in the Facer area a few months ago. Areas around Ontario and Carlton had it last year. Lots of brownfield FTTH going in all over the Niagara Region. |

Thank you Gone for replying, I never knew this about Carlton St and Ontario.
This is good for St Kitts because now Cogeco will have to compete on price & speeds right? I am hoping for TPIA acess to FTTH as well as Bell and Cogeco price fighting.
Bell offer blows Cogeco out of the water completely. Cogeco has no way of beeting those speeds! |

Cable companies can offer gigabit with d3.1 so cogeco shouldn't be far behind with their offering, Rogers is already offering it in their areas (although only for ftth not coaxial areas, but d3.1 should allow for it over copper).
I don't know whether tpia ftth access will lower prices however as Rogers has been consistently cheaper of late than their tpia providers, which defeats the purpose of the TPIA model |

I don't know whether tpia ftth access will lower prices however as Rogers has been consistently cheaper of late than their tpia providers, which defeats the purpose of the TPIA model The fact that Rogers can provide direct to their own customers packages at less than what they are selling wholesale just goes to show how corrupt and fractured the entire system is. It is complete and utter proof that they are lying outright to the CRTC about costs when putting forth submissions for rates. Also, just for the record, price--especially for a good number of us here, isn't the determining factor as to why we go TPIA instead of the Incumbents. |

I wouldn't go that far - the prices were set a while ago based on utilization factors from historical data. The cost per megabit drops rapidly as utilization factors on equipment goes up. The more you use it, the less it costs per megabit. The costing models don't appear to take this in to account, and are fundamentally flawed in that they don't have mandatory yearly reviews. Corrupt and fractured are strong words. Unfairly biased towards the incumbents is probably a better description. |
