Memory Question for Newer SystemHi All
Bought an AMD FX 8310 Asus based computer in early January, discovered ram was only single channel when got it, so for birthday today order Crucial Ballistix sport ram, 2x4gb (Total of 8gbs) to be setup as Dual channel once arrives, Timings are 9-9-9-24, verus this rams typings of 11-11-11-28, Did I make a good and wise decision to spend birthday gift card on the ram, DDR3 1600 speed
Model is M52BC, used Crucials system scanner, so should be totally compatible ram wise, and work fine |

I went with faster timing too, but I doubt if it really makes a big difference. Did it more for bragging rights. |

100% agree. And I have had very good results using the Crucial Ballistix Sport memory in a variety of systems from my own main rig to upgrading a friend's Optiplex 790. |

Update!! Memory Installed, So much faster it seems already, and this was same speed DDR3 I purchased can't wait to see how in the way future how fast it would be with DDR3 1866 or 2133 Ram
Also will it hurt anything that Power Supply cables resting on top of memory, that is how OEM Asus had it with original stick, made it a little pain getting to, but I got them installed, and so far working great |

Well according to Crucial system scanner up to 2133mhz speed supported, Motherboard specs I don't know since can't find the info on Asus site, or in emanual that came with it. System is M52BC_M32BC according to Belarc, and Asus Suite II system info area. Motherboard official specs unknown, CPU-Z still shows Single channel for ram, I guess sometime i'll open case again, and move the sticks to the other 2 slots, and see if it enables dual channel then possibly |

Two are for one channel, two for the other, so you have to put them in slots for different channels. I haven't done this recently but there is advice to be had, for example: » www.tomshardware.com/for ··· l-memory |

Will Certainly try that, and see if it makes the difference I need in the matter, This board the slots looked to be the same color for all 4, but guess could be different than my last motherboard that enabled dual channel with 1st 2 slots closest to CPU, but yup each board is different, so will try the other steps soon as can here, and hopefully all good after that |

said by computerman2:my last motherboard that enabled dual channel with 1st 2 slots closest to CPU That's very strange, from the earliest dual-channel motherboards (875P chipset, though there was an even earlier one) the slots are arranged A-B-A-B so if you wanted dual-channel you'd have to put the sticks closest to the motherboard then in the third closest or the second closest then the fourth. Also seeing slots with a uniform color, at least on consumer motherboards, is a sign that the motherboard doesn't support dual channel. Most do these days though, unless you have AMD AM1. Try slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. |

Yeah It's strange, will try slows 1 and 3, or 2 and 4 and see if it gets it like I want, haven't shutdown and done it yet though, but would imagine since this is newer AM3+ AMD FX 8 Core system it would support dual channel, looked all over Asus site, can't find much info on motherboard specs or anything, System Model is according to Asus Suite II, M52BC_M32BC, Belarc shows same |

said by computerman2:since this is newer AM3+ AMD FX 8 Core system it would support dual channel Yes, it definitely would. As with all modern CPUs, the memory controller is in the CPU. And as with nearly all modern CPUs (with the exception of the aforementioned AM1s), that memory controller is dual-channel. It's not really up to the motherboard anymore. |

Working fine, found out had to be in slots 2 and 3 to enable dual channel (found out via experimenting, slot might've been slightly grayish color, than the other 2 black slots) Working perfectly fine now. Nice and Happy!!, |

Slots 2 and 3 are strange for dual-channel, but if it works, best not to question it. Good for you! |
|

Yeah not gonna question it lol, had them originally in slots closest to CPU, showed SIngle there, tried Slots closest to hard drive--Nope, then tried slot 2 and 3 or A, and A LOL |
