AllThumbs posted : We still love RingPlus as a secondary provider, but nobody should go into this thinking it's going to be a satisfactory, front-line SIP replacement for your PBX. Their SIP feature has been dead for days, and it dies regularly. As a fallback system, it's great when it works, but...

The really frustrating part of RingPlus is you get zero feedback when there's a problem. In fact, their status page continually shows everything functioning perfectly when something has been dead in the water for days. I think it's fair to say their #1 priority is signing up new customers. Everything else takes a back seat to that. Unfortunately, that drives people away in droves, but they haven't figured that part out (yet). As the old sayings go, "You get what you pay for" and "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Sad!

josephf posted : RingPlus, later today (Sunday) at 4:00 pm PT - 7:00 pm PT, is again offering a plan with unlimited voice/minutes calling that can be used via SIP as an unlimited Asterisk SIP trunk for the lifetime of the plan. This time the plan does not require their Member+ program. It costs $115, with the payment broken up over the first five months, and then it remains free thereafter. It is called the Surfing Reuben plan. It also includes unlimited texts, unlimited MMS and unlimited data. The unlimited data could potentially be throttled. Some (but not all) of the previous plans part of the "Surfing" series have experienced throttling at 512k.

They are also offering a second promotional plan during today's same flash period above, called the Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket plan, that includes 6000 each of minutes, texts, MMS and MB of data. (It starts at 4750 each and increases for five months, at which point it remains at 6000 units of each.) It may potentially be throttled as well. It costs a one-time top up deposit of $38, and is then free every month thereafter. The unique part about this plan is that the calls are routed directly over the Sprint voice network, with no part of the calling going over R+'s servers, and the calls do not have music or ads ringtones replacing the normal outgoing ringing. This is a first for a promo plan from R+ with this attribute. This second plan, it should be noted, since it is routed directly over Sprint's voice network is not compatible with R+'s SIP service and cannot be used via SIP.
