The change is probably temporary, I'd keep the 6183. Is there any particular need for you to have IPv6 right now? Is there something you can't access without it?

I can't confirm this, however my modem(6183) log is messed also, it states initially trying to pull IPv6, then shows the provisioning mode being changed back to IPv4. On a single cold boot my modem reboots for a second time.

You misread the PDF. It's the SBG6580 that doesn't support IPv6.

actually it says the opposite. The starred modems don't currently support IPv6.

16 downstreams and IPv6 are completely unrelated options. One doesn't depend in any way on the other.

I think it is something temporary. I have the SB6183 and this test site and my router previously showed IPV6 working, but this morning I have no IPV6 IP.

Also working for me in Charlotte.

In fact I have been debating turning it off anyway because several security sites I have read says it is a security risk to be running it until router manufacturers come out with better ipv6 firewalls.

Something seems to be going on with SB6183s. I started a thread a couple a days ago when I also lost my previously working IPv6 with my 6183. I had just finished a FW update on my router and rebooted...when it came back up, lo and behold, no more IPv6. I figured something had happened with my router, an Asus RT-AC5300 because of the FW update, so I plugged in a backup router, an Asus RT-AC3200 that was also working with IPv6 when I took it offline. Same result...no IPv6. After multiple equipment reboots, I began to suspect something was up in the TWC network. A call to tier 3 yielded puzzlement from the CSR. He said that my modem was listed as "not capable" of IPv6 in the DOCSIS pages that he was looking at. I explained to him that the 6183 was on the list of IPv6 compatible modems and had been working fine with IPv6 for months. He didn't have any idea what was happening. I'm glad to see that it's not just me, but now we need to get a definitive answer (yeah, I know...fat chance, right?) from TWC about what is going on. It's either something on TWC's end, or else my FW upgrade broke IPv6 for the entire TWC network!

You need to re-read the chart. ALL the modems on the list are supported for IPv6 EXCEPT the ones with the star (*). The * says "IPv6 support is expected in the future but not currently available". The SB6183 is on the supported list without qualification. I am in San Diego, and have a SB6183, and IPv6 works fine.

So so far IPv6 is working in San Diego and Charlotte. Maybe it's a regional thing. I'm in central Texas. Not working here.

I think you are a little bit confused but I'm curious, how are your computers/devices/router getting ipv6? The SB6183 is jut a dumb modem.

Post your device/router configuration and the logs showing that
quote:
it states initially trying to pull IPv6, then shows the provisioning mode being changed back to IPv4

How long ago did you lose IPv6? And what type of router do you have?

Interesting...I have the same router and firmware, and IPv6 is working fine in 92117. Email me via my profile page, and we can compare configs.

I assume you're speaking to me. My router is a Netgear R7500v2, IPv6 is enabled and on my pc as well. Like I said, when I reboot the modem, it reboots twice.

This is the exact same thing that shows up in my modem logs...when IPv6 was working I wasn't seeing the double reboots on a modem power cycle.

UPDATE: Latest call to tier 3 and his consult with TWC network engineering. So it looks as though TWC is doing some more unannounced monkeying around with IPv6. Engineering's stance is that, since TWC is still using IPv4, IPv6 is not a requirement so it may come and go at random. When IPv6 is required, you'll have it. Typical TWC non-answer.

Best part about pfSense...Free. It does full IPv6 Support and has an excellent firewall. My work has full IPv6 and I use it a lot to remote into devices at home that can pull IPv6 on my SB6121. You just unblock the port per device that you want open to the WAN side. It's so much better than messing with IPv4 and NAT forwarding.

I will say that when I had a TWC Ubee DDw3611, it never had IPv6 Support. So yes, for some reason TWC has trouble with the firmware on certain modems and running IPv6 on these. It's 2016 and this shouldn't be as IPv6 should be fully supported by now but it's not.

Sad thing is that AT&T just finished installing Gigapower fiber on my street. Sad because AT&T has 2 big issues. One is IPv6 is not native it's 6rd. And two, no true bridge mode for your own router. The RG does a 1:1 NAT and uses some ports for AT&T stuff and limits connections to just a few thousand. These two things almost make me want to stay with TWC until Google comes.

This would also keep me from signing up for gigabit services. I have heard that you can fin-agle the Google Fiber device to allow you to use your own router. But it takes a little bit of hacking to make happen.
