Re: [OOL] New Email Policy

I don't fully understand this. So if you have a xxxx@optonline.net or xxx@optimum.com email address and you don't access it for 90 days, they will delete the email address and all emails. However, does it matter if you have it set up as a POP account on your computer or iPhone? Is that considered accessing the account? Or do you have to log into your optimum account on the Web within 90 days?

My other question is does that delete the account used to access billing and wifi also? I dont use their email very much but I use the account for my billing and wifi access.

This is a good example as to why you should never use an ISP based e-mail address.

Unless you want to register at neogaf. Found that out after waiting around 2 years for registration with my website e-mail and was rejected (account deleted too; goodbye old registration date) because it wasn't an ISP e-mail. "Free" e-mails like gmail, hotmail, etc. are all blocked.

I am wondering this too.

It says you can login and setup forwarding which may mark it as permanently active (?), but I access it via POP. Technically it is accessing the account and logging in in the background, but they weren't descriptive in their notice.

"simply log in to your Optimum Online email account or the email client you use to check Optimum Online email and open or send an email message.....at least once every 90 days

I would think that is considered logging in because the email software is just logging in for you.

No. It says that in the email that you can still access your account.

According to this, using POP would be useless because we'd have to open an email as well. Doesn't make sense.

I suspect it is mainly to deal with completely inactive accounts but of course that is just a guess. Anything else does not make sense but of course it could be simply a stupid policy.

The first line discussing the policy says "if you have not accessed your account". In the optimum help section they discuss how to access your account via POP e-mail. I suspect the e-mail is somewhat poorly written but who knows.

Cablevision can't determine if you opened an email or not after your POP client downloaded your messages.
