Yahoo's Firefox deal risks dropping into the redGregg Keizer of @Computerworld.com wrote: quote: Yahoo's annual payments of $375 million to Mozilla for making the search provider Firefox's default in the U.S. increasingly looks like a bad deal for Yahoo as Firefox's user and usage shares continue to contract.
According to documents filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), Yahoo paid Mozilla $375 million in 2015, and is obligated for the same amount each year through 2019 under a five-year contract. [...]

Firefox has been on the decline for awhile now. The damn thing is a memory leak and Mozilla has done nothing to help fix the memory issues that it has. Myself, I've switched to Chrome. It works better than Firefox ever did. -- Tom Tom's Tech Blog |

i have no problems with firefox.. while firefox does use a lot of memory, i have heard that chrome uses more memory than firefox does.. incidentally, google recently announced that their chrome browser is no longer supported on windows xp, so that could put firefox back at the top, for desktop-usage: » www.ghacks.net/2016/04/2 ··· -option/(a huge amount of chrome's overall marketshare is due to its being used on androids, which skews the numbers) |

Chrome does use more, if one adds up all the processes it spawns. But uh, shouldn't this be in the Mozilla forum? Or am I missing something? -- Opera reborn -- »vivaldi.com |

Chrome may use more RAM but at least the damn thing doesn't slow down with time. I have repeatedly observed that as Firefox pigs out on RAM the rendering speed of web pages drops through the floor. You can tell that its memory usage is high just by how fast, or should I say, how slow it becomes at rendering web pages. It gets to the point where you're almost forced to restart the browser because it ends up happily eating 2+ GBs of RAM with no end in sight. -- Tom Tom's Tech Blog |

Yahoo has 2 problems with Firefox. One is that quite a few people did not want their default search engine switched, and switched it back. The other is that Mozilla is ticking people off by hacking Firefox to bits and removing more and more options. A lot of people have deserted Firefox because of that. |
