Hint; underlined in red. No, I wasn't running a Windows VM in QEMU. I wouldn't feel very secure running real Windows and downloading their software.

This is truly the year of Linux.
Saw some malware ad like that a couple of months ago on one of the streaming sites I use. Thought it strange and funny.

Not any different from other shithead spammers that will put your search terms on a webpage without giving a damn about what you're actually looking for.

What if your MS Windows had a virus? wouldn't it in some cases make sense to run a Linux based repair tool to remove it?

It's possible. However downloading the executable and hitting it against VirusTotal doesn't look entirely happy (granted the signatures are specifically for this product): »www.virustotal.com/en/fi ··· 3418447/

Well, it says it is "Using Microsoft Technologies", so I'd guess it is installing malware of some type, possibly Windows 10.

Whelp, there's a big green download button. May has well download and install it then.

Plus it.... "Remove Viruses and repair damage caused"

I'm sure it's called Reimage for a reason.

It's a totally different look on a Mac. And yes they do have a Mac flavor under Product. But based on their "Stability Problems per OS" graph. It wouldn't have any effect on my system. ...well, any positive effect anyway.

Oh yeah. ExcrementAcceleration. I used to live a few miles away from their office in Poulsbo. Whenever I was in the hood after hours I would piss on their office. I think they have security cams now. I'm ashamed that they're in my state. Although pissin' on them helps me deal with the shame.

Well, with Canonical (Ubuntu) and Microsoft (Windows) getting so chummy (with their "use Bash and other GNU bits natively in Windows"), you never know.

Very true. But it is not native exactly. You have to install the bits and pieces.

I searched for, found, and read the PC World review [reimage pc world], and in their 2011 article, they said that they had tried and genuinely seemed to like this product.

»www.pcworld.com/article/ ··· age.html

PC Mag also praised it, but said that it was too expensive.

These programs don't do anything that I can't do manually and do better. They often install stuff like adware or even malware and/or remove stuff that breaks something.
Even when they do work they are generally overpriced. A friend ran up a $700 bill just trying to click out of all the popups the program threw at her. Scams, legal but not ethical.

PC world is a joke they are part of the cnet family who owns such ex greats as download .com

I remember back in the day where if you needed a program to do something you could head over to cnet or download .com grab it and not even need to check it for viruses did not need to worry about it being malware or adware (unless stated ad-supported like the great then and still great now flashget i use its linux alt uget). Now cnet and download .com are nothing but malware fake anti spyware and tons of crap added to legit software via their easy installers. CNET PC world download are all sources where you should not trust any damn thing they say. They have been corrupt for the last 8 + years. PC world is a advertising agency now you pay them to "review" your software. I honestly wish one of those bozos would see this post and come here. I welcome them ill enjoy chewing em up and spitting em in to the sewer where they belong.

Those sort of programs do nothing at all they just put up fake dialogue boxes that make it look like their scanning. Go to mibbit.com and load up some chat channel. Mibbits programmers make fun of fake progress bars with their loading animation. Pay attention and you'll see some pretty funny references and some geeky ones.
